  • M105 & M205 sample sizes and steps?

I'm getting ready to do both my cars trying 105 and 205 and am wondering if the 12oz sample sizes will be enough. I'll probably just use the 105 on the horizontal panels and then 205 on all the panels.

My plan is to use 105 with a wool pad, 205 with the yellow foam pad, and then 21 by hand. Does this sound like a decent procedure?

    Thanks

Plenty! I bet you use about 2 oz of each, if that, on a whole car.

You would need to post pictures of your cars before a safe answer could be given. What condition are they in? 105 with a wool pad is some serious paint removal.

One of them is pretty beat up but I am a little worried about using the wool. I'm going to try a cutting pad first and hope I don't need to get the wool out.

Also what's the best way to keep the cutting pad clean? I see lots of posts about cleaning the pad often when using the M105

I'm going to let some our rotary experts chime in here. Since you only have two posts and I have no knowledge of your skill level with a rotary, I don't want to share advice which may cause you to damage your paint.

I highly recommend you take some time and check out the "List of Links". It will have the answers you need.

By the way, Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

that's easily enough product to last you a while, especially if you're only doing a few cars...

I only used 2-4 ounces, on a Ford Ranger.

Both machine steps are being done with a rotary buffer?

And then move to hand application?

                  Correct?

Because our new SMA Technology finishes out so nicely you can probably get away with this and have a swirl free finish. With most compounds and abrasive products even with a foam polishing pad you'll still have some swirls in the paint in you inspect the paint in bright sun after the machine steps and before the wax.

The M105/M205 Tag Team are now the benchmark everyone else in the biz will have to beat so you're using the cream of the crop but you and everyone should always do a Test Spot before going over the entire car.

Make sure the product and process you plan on using over the entire car will make one small area look good before going over the entire car. IF you can't make one small area look good then you'll be glad you didn't go over the entire car and you can come back here and let us know what you're seeing and we'll do our best to tweak your technique till we get a successful recipe dialed-in to see you through to success.

                  What are you working on?

                  Ford Pinto?
                  Garage Roll-Around Tool Box?
                  1945 Hudson Truck?

What are you trying to accomplish?

                  Remove swirls and scratches?
                  Remove oxidation?

Do both cars have clear coats or single stage paints?

To clean a wool pad on a rotary buffer you use a Spur or a Pad Washer

To clean a foam pad on a rotary buffer you use a stiff nylon brush or a pad wash that is made so that it can be used to clean foam pads, (not just wool pads).

Note how Mike runs the pad cleaning spur from the center of the ad while placing some pressure on the handle with his foot while the back of the rotary buffer is resting on the floor.

After finishing with the 205 on the yellow polishing pad, you may want to consider using 205 on the tan finishing pad for even more gloss.

I'll be using a rotary and it's mainly for swirls and scratches.

The main car I'm worried about is a black single stage 1990 BMW.
