  • How the heck do they do that?!?

I was browsing detailing stuff on eBay a few days ago and ran across a guy peddling Megs #26 Hi-Tech Yellow Liquid Wax in 16 oz bottles. This stuff is priced @ $12.50 at Meguiar's Direct and I see various vendors selling it for around $11.95, plus shipping.

This guy wasn't auctioning off single bottles though, he was auctioning 6 or 12 bottle lots and starting the bidding at a buck! You might say, 'so what? It's where the bidding ends that counts, not where it starts.'

I watched these multiple auctions for a few days and I saw the 6-bottle lots selling for as high as 15 bucks with free shipping. The 12-bottle lots were going for 18 - 19 bucks, still free shipping. I placed a few low-ball bids on both 6 and 12-bottle lots and got outbid pronto on the larger lots. But I ended up winning two 6-bottle auctions for $9 each. That's $1.50 a bottle, delivered to my door. That's still almost 60% cheaper than if you were buying gallons!

So how's this guy doing this? Maybe he's losing his shorts but I figure he'd raise the starting bid or add a Reserve if that were true. Did he highjack a truck? Is there a truckload of M26 missing somewhere? Is it being firesaled due to an impending product discontinuation? Is someone producing knockoffs? Feedback indicates everyone is receiving orders promptly and everybody's happy.

Just got a confirmation e-mail from the guy and he sez he's going to combine both auctions in one shipment and I can expect delivery within the week. I don't know exactly what I'm gonna do with a gallon and a half of M26 cuz I generally try different LSPs on my personal vehicles and stick with 845IW if I don't feel like experimenting. Maybe I'll pass out samples or give away door prizes or something...

He's also selling case lots of Royal Purple lubes, Mother's stuff, several other Meguiar's products and lots of other stuff. ::::shrug::::

TL <--- thinking about more bids and wondering how long it'd take me to use 12 tins of Mag & Aluminum polish

Could be a warehouse closeout or a freight salvage deal. He buys a whole load really cheap then sells on eBay and flea mkts.

I actually won one of those auctions!! Six bottles for 12.49 shipped....however, I received an e-mail from e-bay stating that the listing was going to be removed. BUMMER!!!! That was a month ago, and I still haven't received them
