Is Body Solvent safe to use on wheels?

  • #2
    Re: Body Solvent

It's safe to use on automotive clear coat finishes so it's should be safe on just about any other surface.

    Your wheels?

What are they made out of or what are they coated with?

Yeah, my own wheels. They have some tar on them that I don't want to use my clay on. Wheel Brightener took a lot of it off, but there's just a little left on them. I believe they're painted aluminum.

Besides Body Solvent which only comes in a gallon container you could try some Goo Gone which is a type of citrus based solvent that's been historically safe on paint. (Always test in an inconspicuous area first).

If you have ScratchX, Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner or even a cleaner/wax you might be able to remove it using one of these products with a foam applicator pad and using the product real heavy or wet on the surface. Gently work the product over the tar as this should help to dissolve it and loosen it from the surface.

Well, I have both body solvent and goo gone, so which would you recommend?

            Goo Gone should work faster.

x2 for the goo gone. Remember the test spot first.

unless your wheels are uncoated alluminum, I'd go ahead and use it. What a waste of money purchasing uncoated alluminum wheels anyway. They are so high maintaince...
