  • Wheel Brightener

What do you guys that have used this think about the detailer wheel brightener? I have factory rims (2008 and 1998 cars) and I believe they are coated so will should be fine?

I'm going to order a sample from ADS to try. Do you know if I order the sample will it come as a concentrate? So I can dilute it very weak?

I don't need to have a strong mix because all I need to do is remove brake dust. Is this the right stuff for me or should I try something else?

Hi. WB is great for removing stubborn brake dust. And I believe ADS ships the 32oz sampler in a concentrated form.

Here's a link that relates to WB

I need a super strong wheel cleaner. Safe on clear coated wheels. I know eagle one makes a super powerful wheel acid but i have a megs dealer near me. I just need to get rid of brake dust build up which accumulates in the little nooks and crannies of wheels which have been neglected for years. I can get most of the brake

Plus, always try the least aggressive method - try using your car's shampoo and if it still doesnt budge then get the wheel cleaners from the consumer line. WB is great but you need to extra caution in using them.

    Hope this helps.

If your wheels have a factory clear coat then WB will be safe, remember the most important rule for cleaning wheels and that's to only clean one wheel at time.

Pretty sure Rich at ADS sends out samples at full concentration, you'll want to dilute it yourself into a spray bottle and you'll want a chemical resistant spray head.

As already stated, use the least aggressive method to get the job done, the recommended dilution for WB is 4:1, that is 4 parts water to 1 part WB, you could experiment with 5:1 and see if that's getting the job done.

The more often you clean your wheels the easier it will be and you might get satisfactory results from a less concentrated mix.

Having a good wheel brush is also a great idea, use both chemical cleaning power and physical agitation to loosen and remove brake dust.

Joe Fernandez aka Superior Shine has been detailing cars as long and probably longer than most Pro Detailers whose opinion is respected, check out his comments on page 2 of this thread,

No wheel brightner avalible for purchase at Meguiars.com in the professional section :(... When will the product be avalible. ?

Before you use it start with the best wheel cleaner in the world, soap and water. We clean the wheels with soap and water first and only use wheel brightner if the first cleaning with soap and water doesn't bring satisfactory results. Most of the time soapy water is good enough.

Also, when we do use wheel brightner we mix it 10:1 and not 4:1. I rather apply cleaner twice (or three times) than to apply a to strong of a mix one time and damage or stain the rim.

Keep in mind that wheel brightner will stain concrete. We still use it if the vehicle is parked on concrete but we make sure to rinse the area around and under the tire thoroughly.

Wheel brightner is a good product if used correctly and safely.

          Re: Wheel Brightener

I just recently did a kind of test of my own with 3 different Meguiar's wheel cleaners. I just got new wheels for my PT Cruiser and cleaned the old ones once they were off the car. They pretty dirty, so I thought it would be the perfect test. I used WB, GC Wheel Cleaner and Hot Rims AWC. I sprayed them on the wet wheels, let them sit for a few minutes and then used my mitt to agitate. IMO they all worked great. I didn't feel like one was easier than the other. The great thing about WB is you can dilute it, so a gallon goes A LOT further.
