If you mean safe as in it will not stain paint work then yes it is. I use it with a foaming sprayer to spray down the lower 1/3 of the cars I detail to pre-soak the area to help remove road grime. I also spray the frontend also to help soften he bugs that get stuck onto the paint.

Safe-D-Greaser has been discontinued, you still may be able to find it for sale and if you do and you want some then you may want to pick up a gallon or two.

In the Professional Line forum, there is a thread Meguiar's New Detailer Line, which lists all of the products in the Detailer Line and their dilution levels.

While Safe-D-Greaser is formulated to be reduce the potential for staining exterior surfaces such as painted panels, a good safety precaution is to either wet these areas down with soapy water and keep them wet while using this product or tape-off these areas with plastic.

To build on that question... Tom, do you use APC as a pretreat? What dilution and about how long do you let it dwell? Also, APC or APC+? Thanks!

Unfortunately I have never used APC or APC + for anything on the exterior. I can say that Safe-Degreaser is very effective at removing wax,road grime,grease, and bugs from my vehicles and all vehicles that I have detailed in the past. When I have used it I mix it inbetween 10:1 and 20:1. If the body panels are realy nasty I go with 10:1. The area first gets wetted down and sprayed I let it sit for about 2-5 minutes before washing it off with a dedicated wash mitt. The paint comes out squeaky clean with nothing left on the surface. I would have to say by it being a degreaser that it is stronger than APC or APC+ so in my thinking it would be more effective than either of those 2 products if mixed the same and being used for the same type of job.

Yes, I do use APC to pre-treat a customers car depending on the condition it's in, if I am using a spray bottle, it would probably be at 10:1. When I had a Karcher pressure washer, I used the foam attachment which really made a lot of foam, but not sure the dilution ration, maybe filled the sprayer 1/3 of the way full? I don't have that anymore and now have a Campbell Hausfield which has two solution tanks, one I will fill up to 1/3 full with Hyper Wash or whatever soap I am using, the other, 1/3 with APC. Whichever one I am using to pretreat is dependant on what I am working on and how dirty it is. Using this machine though does not create near the foam that my karcher foaming attachment did though. I use APC, I tend to save my APC+ for interiors and carpets due to it foaming less.

If the car has a lot of tar or grime on it, I will pretreat that area in a spray bottle with Body Solvent before washing it as well.

As far as dwell time goes, I've never really even given it much thought, by the time I spray down the area, get my stuff ready for washing then I am good to go. I would say that I don't want the presoak to dry on the vehicle. These methods are only for dirty cars I am detailing. For a car that is in good shape and that I will not be buffing, then maybe a pretreat with your favorite car wash soap to losen up any grime. Hope that makes sense and I didn't ramble on too much...
