  • My First time with #105

Well I got my first quart of #105 tonight, I tested it out on some areas of a black '02 dodge intrepid. I buffed the areas by hand with a foam applicator and it really did knock out the swirls, it truly does have a lot of correction power by hand and it takes less effort then scratch-X would have. It did a much better job at removing the swirls then #80 would have with a PC, and appeared to leave a haze free finish. I tried buffing one of the spots with scratch-X after the 105 to see if scratch-x would bring out more gloss, my conclusion was that if it did I couldn't tell, even with my bright flashlight shining at many different angles.

Oh and by the way, the paint on this car tends to turn a bit hazy with #80, which says a lot about 105!

How long did you have to work in #105 to start seeing results?

It appears to work very fast, I used it in the same manner we all use scratch-X by hand with a foam applicator, I'd say you need to work the #105 about half as long as scratch-x with half the effort and it produces results 4 times as nice. My main concern was if the 105 would leave hazing, and it appeared to be crystal clear when looking at it with a bright flashlight at different angles, I'll post a follow up tomorrow when it see it in the sun too

Only thing better than #105 is #95.

Did you have any dusting or were you in a garage?

#105 applied by hand did leave some hazing in one section of my hood. Maybe I worked it too hard or too long. I followed-up wtih Scratch-X and the hazing disappeared.

Thank you for backing up with your testimony what we've been posting on this forum and demonstrating at all our classes. Meguiar's new Super Micro Abrasive technology is truly amazing. Amazing is a pretty powerful word when used like this but anyone that's worked on clear coat paints and knows the frustration of trying to remove defects without leaving defects behind and has used M105 understands the word amazing is an accurate word for describing how this product works.

If anyone looks on the form home page in the right hand column in the box titled, Popular Tags" and look for the word exert and then click on it and read some of the threads where it is explained how sometimes your hand can do more corrective work with the right product, (M105), due to the fact that your 4 fingers pushing down on an applicator pad can exert more pressure than you can using a DA Polisher with all the pressure being spread out over the entire face of the buffing pad.

Here's the link that ties this all together... share this idea with any of your friends when you find them struggling to remove RIDS by machine, (Each one teach one). Sometimes your hand can be more effective for the reasons outlined above.

This is a really good testimony. I've been trying to decide what swirl remover I want to start with (M80, M83, M105, or D151). I think I might use M80 for minor swirl removal and M105 for heavier swirls. Thanks for letting us know about your experience.

105 by HAND: The BEST compound there is!!!

105 by ROTARY is amazing stuff, BUT:

                  1. Clean your pad often! Dust city other wise. (I clean mine twice per large panel - ie. hood, roof)

                  2. Very short "play time". This is an adjustment for detailers that are use to the older compounds(ME). =) It gets the job done, QUICK!

                  3. Watch the amount you use with a rotary. Not too much, not too little.

                  4. Make sure the panel has been in the shade! Play time will be cut to seconds with 105, on a rotary, if your working on a "warm" panel!

                  5. Have some Last touch or Quick detailer with you. 105 seems to get gummy/sticker at times and is impossible to remove. QD helps remove the residue much faster than removing with just a MF towel.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE 105, but, it's not the perfect compound.... YET.

Re: My First time with #105

Update, I saw the areas I buffed last night with #105 by hand in the sun today and do not see any visible haze or micromarring. I looked at a spot I followed up the 105 with scratch-x by hand (I was curious if it would bring out more gloss), and it looks virtually identical, the scratch-x might have brought up the gloss a few percentage points but its so small most people would not even notice.

By hand 105 definately has more corrective power then #80 or #83 with a PC, I think it truly brings back the joy to hand buffing that we have had in the past with the softer paints because the results are so quick and profound. I'm looking forward to the new compounds people have been reviewing

MASSIVE dusting which was a pain to get out of my convertible top... but even on the DA it worked fast and great. On my aunts BMW it caused hazing, but I found her paint to be extremely soft.
