    Here's the details!!!! New paint job B/C, the finish is now about three months old. I used 1500 then 2000 grit to wetsand out some runs and orange peel and then used a rotary wool pad with #84, to bring back the shine, then a foam pad with #80 on the rotary machine and it looked pretty good. the finish has a few spider webs when the light hits it just right. Ordered some of the #82 and went over the whole car with a foam polish pad and the rotary at about 1500 RPM. The finish is perfect after using the #82 but here's the problem. After a couple of days just sitting in my garage the spider webs come back. I guess the oils in the #82 evaporate or dry up. My question is should I be using something else after the #82 or is there something else in the product line to use instead of the 82 that will last even after washing with Hi-Tech.

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

    The product you mentioned, M-84, M-80 and M-82 are all safe for use on fresh paint and for use in body shop environment. They will all wash off with water as they are not formulated for long lasting protection, but instead for removing defects and restoring clarity and gloss.

    Do you own a porter cable dual action polisher? If not, I would recommend one to compliment your rotary buffer work.

    After polishing with which ever polish you finish with, try applying a couple of coats of wax such as Tech Wax or M-26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax.

    Waxes will last longer and improve the appearance of the results you were able to produce with the polishes.

      Are you pure polishing and waxing after M-82 ?

      If i were you i apply a pure polish M-7 or M-5 even DC-2 and 2 coats of wax... Hi Tech or DC-3 or even better NXT...

        if you are on low bugdet for now, you can apply pure polishes and wax by hand... like me

              Thanks for the replies. I've been surfing this sight for about a month and there's a wealth of information here, GREAT sight.

              This car is a collector car and will only be driven to shows and stored indoors. Chances are it will never see rain. I really like the way #82 looks immediately after it's applied, so if I apply NXT Tech Wax over the 82 this will seal in that #82 look and those spider webs will disappear?

                It should help a lot in this respect, it depends on how deep the swirls are. The best thing to do would be to go over the entire finish with the Porter Cable, a W-8006 foam pad and either #83, #82 or #80 Speed Glaze and then apply a minimum of two thin coats of Tech Wax.

                Remove the defects to the best of your ability first, then apply your last step product.

                  So does this mean once you go over the panel with either of these and go over it w/ 50/50 and the swirls come back what do you use to remove them? I had noticed when i used teh 84 the swirls were gone went to 83w/pc then topped w/20 and 2 days later there were buffer swirls. i noticed w/other smr's i use the 50/50 theres no swirls but with the 84 there seems to be more marring than ususal. any suggestions

                    Hi jays,

                    Are you applying the #84 with a PC? If so, this could be the problem. If you're applying with a rotary, are you using a wool pad, or a foam cutting pad?

                    M-84 is a compound for removing serious paint defects and sanding marks with a rotary buffer. Correctly used, it should be buffed till almost gone, this insures the diminishing abrasives have completely broken down. Used correctly, it should remove most/all defects and leave a very low swirl finish.

                    Next, you could re-polish this with a much less aggressive cleaner/polish, like #83, #82, or #80 Speed Glaze and remove any swirls or haze left over by the compounding process. After this, you could, as an optional step, re-polish the surface with a dual action polisher with a cleaner/polish to insure any remaining swirls are removed.

                    At this point, the finish should be swirl, scratch and defect free unless the scratches or other defects are too deep to remove. Then, if the finish is cured paint, you could apply your choice of a wax or paint sealant.

                      i used it with a cutting pad @1500rpms
                      then 83W/polishng pad @1400
                      then 82/pc
                      81/pc
                      20/pc

                      ive already seen the video. I love the way the 84 works its just a couple days after that when it rained theyre were swirls all over. I have used numerous amounts of swirlmark removers and have never had this problem. Do you know of any tips/tricks to get this to work.thanks

                        wool pads are very aggresive... you should buff with W-7000 after using the wool pad.

                        also remember to clean very well with QD after compunding, residues from a compound can cause swirls...

                              Okay, allow me to drill a little deeper,

                              When you say you're seeing swirls after this very exhaustive detail, do you mean buffer Swirl a swirl that shows up in a zig-zag pattern when viewed in bright light?

                              Or Cobweb-effect, swirls that kind of look like a spiders web when you view a bright light like the sun on the middle of the hood?
