    Re: 20 or 21

Saw a post on the Vortex website by a detailer in Canada who uses 21 on most of his customers cars and gets 5-6 months durability with a great shine.

I would think the new #21 2.0 would be the longer lasting.

#20 does have more cleaning ability though.

If I remember correctly #20 plays better with humidity.

I've only used #21 so I can't speak first hand.

M20 Polymer Sealant is an established product in Meguiar's Professional Line, it contains cleaning agents and a blend of synthetic and natural protection ingredients while M21 is all synthetic.

M20 has been around a long time and is actually very popular for it's good cleaning ability, slick finish, easy wipe off and long lasting durability. Even though it's been around a long time the formula is updated as new technology allows. It does not however use the Hydrophobic Polymer Technology used with M21.

M21 is a new product in relation to the rest of the waxes and paint sealants in the Meguiar's line having been introduced in the fall of 2004

          New M21 Synthetic Paint Sealant

This formula has also been updated as new technology is introduced and that includes Meguiar's Hydrophobic Polymer Technology which causes water to want to get away from the coating.

Both are great sealants, it just depends on what you're trying to do and what you want.

          What are you working on?
What are you trying to accomplish?

I use #21, but I'm curious to know how the level of cleaning agents in #20 compares to Cleaner/Wax or ColorX.

I try to re-wax every 3-4 months, but did go close to 6 months on a silver Camry over the past winter. It was still washing nicely and seemed well protected. I always handwash with Meguiar's HyperWash.

M20 Polymer Sealant is a light cleaner/wax, not as much cleaning ability as products like ColorX, M66, M06, D151 etc.

Not sure how close it would be to A12 Cleaner/Wax in our Consumer Line as it too is a light cleaner/wax.

Bigger pictures is that M20 is a light cleaner/wax.

                Re: 20 or 21

I just found that M21 works well in the hot & humid, here in NC it gets kinda nasty in July and August and I had NO issues at all with application and removal. I used a PC to apply. MF towel to remove.

Unless you're working on a car that's always garage kept, in other words if your car is a daily driver and parked outside at least part of each day then the paint gets dirty and a little cleaning action is a good thing, not a bad thing.

The philosophy expounded upon so much on other forums is for non-cleaning paint protectants and waxes and they have their place but the average person needs a product that cleans at least a little unless they want to separately clay and clean each time before waxing.

We have used #20 for years. We have recently introduced #21 into our arsenal.

Are rules for which to use is like this-

#20 for vehicles in excellent condition needing a preventative maintenance type of "wash and wax"

#21 for anything that we polished/buffed.

                            Superior shine:
I think that is a good rule to keep in mind!

But this is my question to you, is it really necessary to have both?
Couldn't you use 20 on both types of vehicles and get the same results? I mean does the presence of the light cleaners really make a difference or affect the paint negatively at all?

Just a question from someone who has yet to compare them side by side.

                            Thanks!
