      It's short for a dual action polisher built by the Porter Cable company, thus PC

      We introduced this tool to the detailing world back in either the late 80's or the early 90's because we were one of the only companies that made backing plates and foam pads that would attach to it, plus the chemicals to use with it.

      Since the Internet came into being, now everybody and their brother sell the tool and similar pads and products, but it was Meguiar's that introduced this tool originally to the enthusiast market.
