  • Foam Pad Problem

Today I took a journey to the autobody shop to pick up some products. I got a backing plate, meguiars yellow foam pad and #83.

After washing and claying the car, I put my yellow foam pad on and went to work with the #83. It did nothing and just sucked the product back into the pad leaving the paint dry in about 20 seconds. I would work it in at low speed for about a minute then go up to around 1600. What am I doing wrong?

    Re: Foam Pad Problem

Working the product in at low speed for a minute seems like a long time. You just basically need to spread the product out and then start buffing. Usually spreading the product only takes a couple of seconds. That might be causing the M83 to dry out quicker.

Depending on your skill level, buffing a rotary at 1600 rpms might be a bit fast. Slow that down to maybe 1200 and see how it goes.
