  • M21 2.0 Problem!!

Hey guys, well i have heard rave reviews on M21 2.0 sealant and thought i would try it, so i ordered up a 16 oz from Rick at ADS

I just got around to trying it out today on my personal vehicle and am a little disappointed to say the least. I am positive that i stripped off all of my existing sealant/wax by using CG Citrus Wash 2 oz to every gallon...the paint had absolutely no slickness and did NOT bead water...well so from here i clayed and the paint looked great before i put on 21...then the bad happened

I let 21 sit on the paint for about 1 hour...i then proceeded to take it off with a MF and boom...the paint was "blotchy" There was cloudiness in places and clear in others..what happened? I am going to top it off with #26 in the morning..i am going to give it time to set up but after looking at it i just want to strip it off and start over with another sealant...can someone please enlighten me of what i did wrong or others that have had the same problem...my truck is my avatar so that is the color i am dealing with...thanks!

I think i`ve experienced this with MG21. -Seems like it happens either if you don\t give it enough time; or if there`s too much moist in the air. -Both would mean that the 21 has`nt been aloud to sink in enough...

Once it started raining, with the 21 on, quite a mess...!

Along with humidity, and possibly applying to thick, it is possible that some cleaning and polishing was also needed to prep the paint. #21 is meant for prepped surfaces.

In a small section, reapply M21 2.0 and apply a very thin layer of wax and remove.
Evaluate and see if it removes the cloudiness.

This could be related to the humidity/a very thick layer of wax was applied/didn't let the wax to fully cure/you let it sit for a long time.

This can be removed by applying another coat of wax (remember to apply a very thin layer) and remove when cured (swipe test)

Did you shake it up really well? The first couple of times I used #21 V.1 I thought it was just terrible. The third time I went to use it just water came out...so I took the top off (of my ADS sample bottle) stirred it up, replaced the top and shook it really well, and it was like a totally different product. Not saying that is your problem, and I have no experience with V.2.

Wait 8-12 hours for the #21 2.0 to cure, then go over it with UQD or #135. That should take care of the streaking without affecting the durability.

Will any QD do, i use Optimum Gloss enhancer...should i even try to top it with 26? I just dont want to make it worse but i dont even wanna let it leave the garage looking the way it does now...and Setec, yes i am positive i shook it almost after every panel...im just really surprised to see all of this happening..i figured after the 12 hours i would QD and then if it was still bad then i would just strip and try something else...

That I don't know. If I were trying to preserve and enhance a fresh sealant application, I would run out and get the UQD and not experiment with a different and possibly non-compatible QD.

I suppose you could try the Optimum on a small section and see what happens. When in doubt, always do a small test spot. I would not top it with the #26 until UQD is used first. UQD is very compatible with carnaubas in case you were wondering. I have yet to find a wax or sealant that UQD did not work great with.

So you clayed and polished the paint and 1 1/2 months later you applied #21? If so there may have been a chance that the paint had some new bonded contaminants not allowing #21 to bond properly to the paint.
This past weekend I clayed, polished & applied #21 to my truck. I left #21 on overnight & the next day I removed it. Came off easily & there were no blotches in the paint. Under the sun the paint looked great.

                      Re: M21 2.0 Problem!!

                      Agree with Jesse,

Wash the car or wipe it clean and then use a light paint cleaner like Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner to remove anything you've previously applied and to remove any other contaminants that have built up on the paint.

(It is a daily driver correct? If so, paint gets dirty when exposed to the world).

After properly preparing the paint to accept a coat of wax, then apply the wax. Apply a thin coating, allow it to dry until it swipes clear and then wipe off the dried excess.

Zillons of happy customers with all our waxes including M21, it's a great product, so there must be a problem somewhere else.

                          Understood.

Here's an experiment you can try, wash or wipe a panel clean, usually the hood work best as it's flat and you can look down on it.

Shake the M21 really well and then apply only to one section of the hood, a small section for example about 16" square. Apply a thin coat of this wax, work it in really well, do this by making overlapping circle motions going over each square inch of this section 2-3 times gently but thoroughly working the product over and into the paint.

Now let the wax dry for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Be sure to do this in the shade while the surface is cool.

After the wax has dried, wipe the wax off of this section and for your final wipe, use a very clean, plush microfiber polishing cloth, folded 4 ways to give your hand pressure some cushion, use this to give the surface a final, slow wipe.

                          Now inspect the results.

If you can make this one small area look good, you can make the entire truck look good. If you're not getting stellar results then we'll have to drill down a little deeper to find out where the problem is.

Update us as soon as you can as to your results.

Thanks for giving us a chance to see you through to success.

I agree with mike . I always do a slower more deliberate final wipe after the wax was removed with my g-100.
