Why nobody mentioned #2?

    Why nobody mentioned #2?

    I have a #2 and have been working on a few cars as the paint cleaner process (1st of 3-step process)

    All were done by hand and I have achieved amazing results as far as paint cleaning, it takes a little effort to remove coz it's quite aggressive

    I know a lot of ppl using #83 and both have pretty similar cutting power but I cannot find #83 here in Canada (too bad), so I have to stick with #2

    so can anyone tell me that if #2 is a really good paint cleaner? or I should use DC1 or #9 as the paint cleaner? please advise

    It is. It just is kind of an "outsider" product. I'm not too sure why it isn't used more, but if something works (M83 for example), why switch? I'm sure someone else here will have a better answer as to why, but it is a great product: It's Meguiar's!!!

      Yeah, #2 is not mentioned that often.

      Why?

      It's old school. However, the older products that Meguiar's produces are some of the most popular - #7 anyone? Some people haven't tried it, or they assume that old products don't work that well.

      #2 is carried by many stores that don't carry the newer style cleaner / polishes. O'Reilly carries it. Napa supposedly carries it, but I can't confirm that.

      I really like #2 and use it by hand for small projects. It doesn't leave any marring, either.

      #2 is rated a five on the scale where as #83 is rated a six. #83 is also a new style cleaner / polish.

        My NAPA carries M02. I have it and use it on occasion.

          I use M02 on the hard stuff. I love it. Can't wait to try M105 though. But M02 is still my good ol' standby.

            I think of #2 as a “sleeper” product.

            The old formula #2 had been a round a long time and was for rotary only. I think that’s why it fell off people’s radar. (I still have some and like it with the rotary.)

            The new formula was introduced without a lot of fanfare. Now it can be used by hand, DA, orbital and rotary. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of body shops who were only using it by rotary anyway never even noticed it was changed.

            It works great.

              I use #2 quite a bit. Great product and easy to use. It also makes quick work of water spots on glass.
