  • APC and UV Protection.

So I have a Scion xB, which has a plastic interior that has little dimples in it, and a very matte finish. I have used Natural Shine and #40 and don't care for the look they give on this dash. I've been using Quick Interior Detailer and APC cut at 10:1 and like the nice matte finish I get from them, but don't know about the UV protection, QID doesn't have any does it, and APC has just some doesn't it?

Anything else I should look at to give me a good matte finish?

QID has a bit, and the new QID has a bit more. But neither are as much as a coat of a proper dressing. I do not know if diluted hyper-dressing would suit you. That may have a bit more UV protection than QID even whe ndiluted.

I would guess that APC has less than QID if it does have UV protection.

Well, darn then. I guess at this point I'm looking for a product that will give me UV protection that has a very matte finish. I'd try Hyper Dressing, but it would be a shame to buy a gallon of it just to find out that it doesn't work the way I'd like!

Yep, I'm in North Dakota... Just barely in the US still... The only problem with ordering stuff now is it'll freeze. I've got a can of #16 I bought like a month ago that I'm waiting to get it shipped because we've been so cold here! Heck, it's snowing now!

I might just head down to my local store and pick up a gallon. I'm sure I can find some other uses for it too... lol

Just to clarify, APC or All Purpose Cleaner is a straight cleaner and doesn't offer any protection as that is not the purpose of the product.

QID was improved with more UV protection but not as much as a real dressing as QID is primarily a cleaning product. That said regular maintenance of your car's interior using QID should maintain the appearance and protect the interior components.

Have you tried waiting 10~15 minutes after applying 40 or Natural Shine and then going back and buffing with a dry cloth? It will knock down the shine on either product.

I have, but the problem is it gets real streaky on me. I think it's because of the texture of the dash, but I can't seem to get a matte finish on this.

And Mike Phillips, is there any way to tell what bottles of QID I have are new? lol I have a small stock pile of them.

                    Hey,

Mike correct me if I am wrong, but I believe there is a red label denoting its new and improved version on the top left corner of the QID's label.

There's a RED Flag calling out the improvement on the label

                        Re: APC and UV Protection.

                        Well that was simple... lol

I'll remeber that, and also try giving my #40 coat a better rub down after applying.

Do you think that diluting #40 1:1 or even 2:1 would give it a more matte finish without effecting the UV protection?

Finally, I have to say, this is the reason I use, and will continue to use Meguiar's, the support of the company is excellent, and that means alot! Thank you!

                          Re: APC and UV Protection.

#40 is not water based, so diluting it would likely produce a mess.

                          Only Hyper-Deressing is dilutible.

WBD dressing is dilutable too. RTU is high shine, and 1:1 is low gloss (IIRC, been a while since I have taken a look at it.)

Let me chime in here if I may

While Murr1525 is correct in saying M40 is not dilutable, we need to clarify M40 is actually water based....

Not all "water based" dressings are "dilutable" or designed to be diluted at the same dilution. (Now that's a tongue twister )

                              For example;
Hyper Dressing (D170) is designed to be diluted up to 4:1.
Water Based Dressing (D171) is designed to be diluted up to 1:1.
Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner (M40) is not dilutable.
Natural Shine (G41) is not dilutable

Keep in mind, all 4 are "water based"

In additon....please let me add to the QID thoughts...
Quik Interior Detailer (spray or wipes) is not a "cleaner" only. But it is not a "dressing" either.... It is really a new category in interior care/maintenance. It does lightly clean, but it also leaves behind some UV protection. What it does not do is enhance darkness or condition like a traditional dressing.

QID is really meant to be used in conjunction with the dressing of your choice.

                              Hope this helps
