  • M105 with Which wool pad?

    Hi Everyone,

Could the Ultra Cut Compound - M105 be used with the Cut 'N Shine® Wool Pad? or it should be paired with the new Double Sided Wool Cutting Pad? is the new Double Sided Wool Cutting Pad be used with the old 8" backing plate?

Another thing is, I found that the M21 2.0 has been removed from the estore in MOL. Do we know when we could start to order the M21 2.0?

    Thanks!
    Cheers,
    CH

Re: M105 with Which wool pad?

    chiathau,
I've used 105 on two separate cars now, It's worked great with both the Solo Light cut wool pad and a lake county orange pad which is similar to the meguiars maroon foam cutting pad. They both finished out very nicely. I will say the first time I used it, I had a lot of dusting and the product got gummy and was hard to remove, even after cleaning the pads. The last time I used it, I changed pads after about three panels and it worked great. It's amazing stuff. As far as the cut-n-shine pad or the double sided wool pad, I am sure it would work great with them, but since they are aggressive, you MAY have to follow it up with something to remove the marring they could cause, but I don't have any experience with them with 105.

I know nothing about the new 21.

The M95 and the M105 were specifically formulated to go after the target market of removing sanding marks using a wool pad and best results for removing sanding marks in a body shop situation is with a wool pad. That said we did do a lot of field testing using foam cutting pads and experienced good results with this option also.

As far as type of wool pad, we of course recommend our new double sided wool cutting pad but you can use it with any quality wool pad.

As for the backing plate, both sides of the double sided wool pad has a wool face, thus the name, double-sided wool pad. In order to use the double sided wool pad you'll need to get an adapter that extends the arbor on your rotary buffer about 2" These adapters are cheap and available from any source that also sells double sided wool pads.

The best pad for quickly removing heavy or moderate defects is the W5000 Double-Sided Wool Cutting Pad.

Meguiar's really hit the target with this pad- Exceptional build-quality, sizing is perfect, fiber-length is spot-on, and pad haze is minimal.

The So1o System's wool pads work great with M105, too... The light cutting pad (yellow wool) teamed with M105 is a favorite combo of mine. The heavy cutting pad (burgundy wool) yields great performance, too, but if you're planning on purchasing a cutting pad, opt for the W5000.

I've used M105 with every pad in the Meguiar's arsenal, and to this point, each pad has performed well with M105.
Use a cutting pad to cut, a polishing pad to polish, etc...

The KEY to using M105 with any pad is keep the pad CLEAN.

M105 tends to load on to the surface of the pad heavily (if not cleaned during use). Once its' lubricating agents start evaporating, your work-environment can get a bit dusty if the pad is not cleaned at regular intervals during extended use.

Ideally, I recommend using more thaan one pad for your buffing session...

The key to maximizing cutting & polishing performance with M105 is...

        KEEP THE PAD CLEAN ! ! !

          Kevin,

What do you recommend for cleaning the wool So1o pads? I assume a buffing spur gets the job done. Is there anything better?

And to piggy back on this, the the key to great results when buffing with any kind of machine is to always work clean, this means clean your pad often and always wipe off any spent product before applying fresh product.

              Bob-

If you've got an air-compressor handy, a quick roll of a spur across the wool pad, followed by a thorough blast of compressed air works better than any other method I know of. Simply flip the pad so it is facing up, throttle the buffer, and blast the air until the pad is clean and fluffy!

              No compressor?
A spur works okay, so long as the pad isn't too wet. A stiff nylon-bristled brush works well, too, but don't spin the pad at high velocity because we certainly wouldn't want MELTED NYLON to attach itself to your pad!!!

Overall, your best bet would be to keep an arsenal of pads handy and use the first pad until it no longer spurs clean (due to liquid saturation). Switch to a clean, dry pad and repeat the process until the job is done.

Even though it'll cost a few bucks initially, the payoff is a HUGE savings of TIME, because the majority of buffing pads don't work as well when they've become saturated. They tend to lose cutting-power, from what I've seen.

An investment in a pad-cleaning machine is a good bet, too.
