  • First Meguiar's Let Down

Tried Meguiar's Medallion Premium Leather Care yesterday and I was kind of let down. Maybe it was cause I had high expectations b/c of all hype about the Medallion line, or maybe I'm just not using it right? Does anyone have a suggestions on how to properly use it, other wise I have a very expensive bottle of liquid paper weight on my hands.

I frequently use the Medallion Premium Leather Cleaner. It cleans well and doesn't discolor or darken light color leathers. It leaves the leather soft and supple without feeling greasy.

How are you applying and removing it? What problems you are having with it?

It doesn't seem like it is doing anything to the leather. I'm applying it with a 100% cotton terry cloth and wiping it with a different part of the towel. Do you need to let it sit for a little before wiping it again. That may be my problem. The leather looks like it did before I applied it which is a good thing but it just doesn't seem to do anything. I think it is that all the other products have changed, dramatically, how my paint looked I was hopeing this would do the same for my leather. Hope you all don't think I'm ripping on Meguiar's, I would never use anthing else. I was just looking for suggestions.

I didn't think you were "ripping on Meguiar's" but this forum is for sharing knowledge on products and wanted to get more information from you to see if there was something we (forum collective) could do to improve your results.

I apply with a 100% cotton towel too. I leave my MPLC sit for about 15 minutes before buffing off the excess. What I find for my leathers is that the product cleans, softens and protects the leather.

Over the course of time oils, grime, perspiration and other soils will work their way into the surface of your leather. The heat and sun will bake out the natural oils. If you want to keep your leathers supple and looking like new for years to come, you will need to regularly clean and protect them. Car seats, steering wheel and armrests get a lot of abuse, especially the drivers cockpit area.

I'd suggest the regular use of MPLC every two to four months, more often in very hot weather. MPLC doesn't just clean and restore your leather to a new-like condition but also it protects to prevent/minimize soiling and stains as well as to make your leather easier to clean in the future.

          Hope this helps.

            Just to add,

Make sure to thoroughly work the product into the leather. Then leave for a few minutes and remove.

Give that a try and post back!

                Hi jcma81,

                Just a couple of comments,

One, sometimes you don't see a dramatic before and after difference when working with leather. I know a lot of times I demonstrate our leather care products on leather at the Saturday clinics and then let all the attendees inspect and there's not a lot to see. It's not that kind of before and after.

Usually, I'll have them feel the treated area and compare it to the untreated area and most of the time, not all of the time, but most of the time most people can the increased suppleness.

If your leather is in good shape to start with, then it's likely you're not going to see a dramatic difference. It's important to understand that while you may not see a difference, change has taken place and there is a difference in a positive way.

I would recommend working the product in, allowing it to penetrate for some time, and then remove any excess.

Meguiar's appreciates your taking your time to post your experience, both positive and negative. Thank you.

If your leather is in good shape, it hopefully won't change much. With leather products, you mainly want to keep that new look and feel, not really change anything.

I thought MPLC was alright. It cleaned away a bit more dirt after using Lexol cleaner, and left the leather feeling conditioned. It's not my most favorite product, but it works fine and I use it on the Regal. I like it more than the Gold Class version of the product, though they have similar smells.

                    A little insight...

I emailed Meguiar's not too long ago to ask about the variety of leather cleaning/conditioning products. What follows is my exact question, and the exact answer received. Hope it helps!

                    Question:
Please explain the differences between your leather cleaners. Why are there 3 different types and which one is better? (Gold Class Rich Leather Aloe Cleaner & Conditioner; Gold Class Leather Cleaner & Conditioner; or Medallion Leather Care)

                    Answer:
The Gold Class products are our newest line of products.

The G/C Aloe Cleaner is our best cleaner.

The G/C Cleaner/ Conditioners is a good one step product, will not clean as well as the Aloe, but easier because it is one step.

The Medallion Cleaner/ Conditioner is a product that has been on the market for a number of years. Difficult to find in stores, older technology and because of the types of stores that carry it may be the most expensive of the bunch.

                      Hey,

There is one more leather product in the Meguiar's line up:

Detailer Series Leather Cleaner & Conditioner D-18001

I really like this product as it cleans very well, smells good, and leaves a very soft feeling leather. Plus, it does not leave any kind of greasy residue behind!
