  • What about #82?

    Why almost nobody talks about the #82? I have the ScratchX and the #82 Professional Swirl Free Polish for my new black car. My car have some light washing swirl mraks. I would like to know if these 2 products acts like the same thing. Do the #82 works find in hand polish? Is the ScratchX too hard for a new car (4 months "years old")? Thanks from Rio!!!

    #82 is a very mild cleaner/polish. You may find that it is to mild to be able to remove swirls by machine, but if you already have it, you may as well try it.

    Working by hand, ScratchX would be the better choice. But ScratchX is a cleaner only, so it would want followed by a polish and a wax.

      Like Murr1525 stated, M82 is a light or gentle cleaner/polish, that is it's not very aggressive in it's cleaning ability. So how effective it will be at removing swirls and scratches depends upon how deep the swirls and scratches are, how polishable the paint is and how you're going to apply the product, hand or machine if by machine which type of machine.

      How old a car is has the least influence on removing swirls unless we're talking about fresh paint which would be soft because it's fresh.

      You don't know what you can do until you try


      You won't know if M82 or ScratchX will get the job done until you go out into your garage and work on your car and then inspect the results.

          Just do a test spot/area first with #82, and see what happens. Nothing wrong with trying, and may as well try the mildest product first since you have it.

            Good advice as usual murr. The rule around here is try the least aggressive product first. Good luck. Let us know how the 82 worked.

              I've used #82 by hand on motorcycles and it does a good job of removing light marring, even by hand. That said, I'm able to spend much more time/effort polishing the few painted parts of a motorcycle than I would a car, so it may take quite a while to polish a whole car by hand with #82. (But that isn't to say that it isn't possible.)

                    I would probably go with either #80 or #82, not both. Along with what Murr1525 said, I think you may get better results with the #80. (But that doesn't mean that I've stopped using #82 on bikes! )

                      I've used 82 quite a bit and I think it's highly under rated. It does a good job with the PC on removing defects and cleaning. It's finish has a lot of depth and gloss to it. I especially like its ease of use.

                      I used it with the rotary last week and man, it really showed it's muscle then.

                        Does #82 have sufficient TS polishing oils that you don't need to do an extra step with a pure polish like #7? The reason I ask is #9 has always been my go to product for detailings where only a very light cleaning is needed, and I've always noticed a big improvement when I've taken the extra time to use #7 between using #9 and the LSP.
