  • Black paint prescription?

Hi all - new poster here with a question about my black 2002 GMC Denali. I have used Meguiars Gold Class products with great success on a 95 Accord (Gold) and 99 Passat (silver). I currently have the truck above, and cannot get the hood looking pristine.

The problem is spiderweb type scratches throughout the paint. I have tried both competing products, as well as Meguiars products as follows: applied ScratchX to entire hood with random buffer, applied Gold Class polish in the same fashion, followed by Gold Class wax. This seemed to help some, but the scratches are not gone. I think I need something more aggressive.

Can someone recommend a cleaner/polish/wax protocol to follow? I don't care how long it takes to fix this, I just want it fixed. The rest of the truck looks perfect and this is driving me nuts.

    thanks,
    Matt

Do you have a Porter Cable buffer? If so, buy #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish. See this thread: http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...&threadid=1911

In it I use a PC to remove swirls probably similar to yours.
I sometimes judge people by the cleanliness of their car.

For sure get a Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher if you don't have one. (If you drive a Denali, you can afford it. )

      1. Meguiar's #83 - cuttiing pad or polishing pad, pc set at 5

      2. Meguiar's #82 - polishing pad, pc set at 5

      3. Meguiar's NXT - polishing pad, pc set at 3 or 4

Remove all products with a microfiber polishing cloth by hand or with a microfiber bonnet on the pc.

I've had black vehicles exclusively since 1977. Currently I own a big black Dodge Hemi. The above prescription can't be beat for good looks, ease of application and durability.

        Hey mblocher to Meguiar's Online!!!

        I will second Tom's advice.

With the #83, buff with PC set to speed 5, until only a slight dust/residue remains.

With #82 Buff thoroughly(PC at speed 4) but remove while still damp.

Follow with 2 coats of NXT.

Good luck and keep us posted with the results!!

WARNING: depending on depth of scratches (cobwebs), a PC might not be strong enough...you may need the help of a professional
