question about professinal line

my question is...r the professial products used just like consumer product use or r they more for if u have a shop or something becasue i was thinking that they were more for shop use. i was also wondering how much better professinal is then consumer and how to find the professial products...i checked pep boys and they only had like 3 and that was wax. it seems professinal, well more mirror glaze, has a very sufisticated selection. by that i mean very specific things like final inspection and paint cleaner and u know..

when using the professional line or consumer line you still follow the same steps.

products are used in the same order and useage just pro line you get greater selection and greater range of aggressiveness.

i use a mix of Pro Line, Consumer Line and Detailer Line. they're all good for what i use them for.

I like the QD but I love the M80. know what i mean. but some cars won't need M80 as DC1 and DC2 will do.

having a wide range of product never hurt anyone.

Is there any signficant cost/use differential between the consumer and professional lines? IOW, if either will do the job, do you "save" on costs to use one over the other?

It depends.

Buying in bulk is usually cheaper, and Professional and Detailer line products usually come in bulk.

But for the amount an Average Joe would need, probably not a huge savings. Dressings could be another story, and the All-Purpose Cleaner is cost effective.

Use ads and buying in bulk IMHO is the way to. Providing of course you have dialed in your proper recipe for what you are trying to achieve. then using the pro or detailer lines and buying in bulk is the way to go.

Now I'm confused. I thought I read where most would use #83 before #80. Is this just preference, typo, or what's the rationale...

typo. using M83 before M80 is not wrong but not right either.

let me explain.

You always want to use the LEAST aggressive product first, to see if the jobc can get done.

so that's what i put M80 - M83. because m80 is the least aggressive out of the two and can do the job most of the time. it is an excellent cleaner that won't streak/haze. now if M80 doesn't do it then you need to proceed to M83 the more aggressive of the two and one of the most aggressive products you can use with a PC-G100. FOllowing an application of M83, depending on your paint, if say its scratch sensitive, or M83 marred the finish, left streak marks or haze, you will have to follow that with an application of M80 to rid your finish of anything.

that make sense.

that is why you should always do a test spot. if you went straight to grab the bottle of M83, and did all that work, because M83 takes a while to work in etc...how would you know M80 wouldn't work to get the job done? you really wouldn't. so doing a test spot saves you huge time.

so you job might look like this.

you save some money after awhile buying only consumer products, but you'll eventually realize that you need a mixture of both and that consumer alone might not cut it for the results you want.

Well, I dunno about more expensive...

From ADS for example:

ScratchX - $7.49 for 7 oz = $1.07 per ounce
#80 - $13.99 for 32 oz ~ $0.44 per ounce, and it is a cleaner/polish, not just a cleaner.

Maybe it seems more expensive cause you are buying larger amounts.

Thanks, TP, for the explanation. That makes a lot of sense. Don't go any further into the finish (or my energy) than is absolutely necessary to do the job.

I've got 2 new vehicles and will be claying, glazing (#5 or #80) and waxing (#21) shortly. However, for my daughter's 95 Corolla I was thinking I should have some #83 on hand. Anything more than that is going to be beyond what I'm willing to try as a newbie to detailing and the required products.

I've got a big interior paint job on the house to finish up with before I can spend much time in the garage. So I'll keep reading and learning for a couple more weeks before trying out the new DA and Meg's.

BTW: I understand that we don't want to waste our money. However, on these sorts of projects the labor is where the real "cost" is. And I'm onboard with buying in bulk once you lock into a product set. I can't resist those gallons for the price of 2 quarts.

There are some differances in the needs of a consumer vs. the proline.

M80 and M83 have Meguiars "oils" in them (same type "oils" as DC2) so that you can clean and polish in one step. This eliminates the two seperate steps, so you save time (which is a need of pro's). Also, pro line products are generally formulated for machine use, and machines often give better results then by hand, so you generally get better results in less time.

Final Inspeciton is forumlated for a final wipe and is body shop safe. This means, unlike other detailers, that there are no oils or sealent/waxes. It doesn't boost the appearance of the finish (unlike Quik Detailer spray, which features attempts to clean and enhance the finish). This means Final Inspection can be used right after waxing/sealing to clean the surface where as the cleaniers and gloss enchancers in Quik Detailer could effect the bonding.
