  • VOC compliant?

    Hello guys,

    here is my first question:
What does "VOC compliant" means? Is it some kind of enviromental direction law? Maybe a direction for dangerous chemicals? I never heard it before and couldn“t find exact informations in this point.

Hope you can tell me more.

    Greetings
    Wilhelm

VOC means "volatile organic compound" and is regulated by the EPA (Enviromental Protection Agency) in the US and all the products that has some type of solvent must meet some type of standard. Or someting like that.

The US EPA regulations apply to the whole country but local governments can make stricter rules.

VOC's create more air pollution than many other chemicals. Southern California has worse air quality problems than most of the US so our local regulations about VOC's are tighter.

You will often see products that say they are SCAQMD (South Coast Air Quality Management District) VOC compliant. You will also see products for sale in the rest of the US that cannot be sold in California.
