  • Most aggressive by PC

New here to Meguiars just wanna say hello

I just wanted to know if DACP is the most aggressive polish/compound for clearcoats that will properly breakdown with a PC? Thanks

    Hi trueblueblood,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

I would say that Yes #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish is the most aggressive Meguiar's product you can use with the PC that will effectively break down and produce excellent results.

    What are you working on?

Hey Mike thanks for the reply. I've got a true blue Mustang it has alot of metallic flake same color as the one from the Autopia detail day! I have some minor to moderate swirling in some areas but otherwise it is in good shape. Well a few months ago I had somebody come and detail my car using a PC, since I had some etching/watermarks, that I couldn't touch by hand. He used some fine cut cleaner and reduced/minimized theses marks, overall he did a really good job and the car was 95% swirl free but the marks remained. Well later on through research I found that fine cut won't properly break down with a PC, so I got my own cause I like doin it myself now and had my washing, drying , claying stuff down pat just not the polishing part. So I'm hoping DACP since its a step above fine cut will take these marks out. I was gonna try a yellow cutting pad or wool pad with SFP, then go to DACP. Do you think wool is to aggressive with a PC for a clearcoat car, from Autopia there seems to be alot of different opinions. After polishing I plan on using Clearkotes VM+#81+ and then top with some paste wax.

        Hi trueblueblood,

I read where others are getting good results using wool pads on the PC, but I have not been able to produce what I would call acceptable results myself.

I would stick with foam for now.

The #83 DACP should be aggressive enough to remove the #2 FCC marring. Experiment in one place then wipe off and inspect your result before going over the entire car.

Your plan of attack looked a little backwards.

I was going to try a yellow cutting pad or wool pad with SFP, then go to DACP.
The DACP is more aggressive than the SFP, so reverse the order of application for these two products and you should be okay. I would avoid a foam cutting pad also, it will in most cases dull your finish down. Use Meguiar's W-8006 Polishing pad, or an equivalent.

Also, If you have done a good job of applying the #83 DACP, then you probably don't need to do both the #82 SFP and the #81 HP, just pick one and then go to your VMW with a paste topper.

Of course, if it were me, I would use two thin coats of the Tech Wax, it really creates a crystal clear finish that reveals the metallic in the paint as well as a glossy, wet look.

Vanilla Moose Wax is no slouch either when it comes to creating a nice looking finish.

Out of curiosity, what are you planning on using for a paste?

          Mike,

I've had very good luck with my pc using Mequiar's burgandy cutting pad and DACP to remove scratches on my black Hemi. I've even used 3M Perfect-It II compound and got only mild haziing that I could then fix with DACP. I usually finish the job with a polishing pad and DACP. When I'm really looking for "perfection" I will follow this with #82.

            Hi Tom,

I have read of people getting results like you posted.

I'll have to try some more experimenting.

              Mike,

Have you had any time to experiment with a foam cutting pad and DACP?

I just started to use the PC, so no plans for me doing this, but I'm sure myself and others may be curious as to what your thoughts are regarding the results of your testing.
A great finish begins with the right start!

I'm going to be doing some wax testing this coming Wednesday night here at Meguiar’s.

I'll do some testing then and do my best to capture the results with my camera.

Spoiledman is coming on down to watch and help out and I'll be asking him to post his observations as well as validate mine lest anyone on another forum challenge my credibility.

It would be okay with me if a few other local members of Meguiar’s Online would like to stop in, I have the Training Garage reserved from 5:00pm to 10:00pm

Another person is bringing by their Porsche for a recommendation on how to best restore the finish for top dollar as he's planning on selling it.

Mike, I'm going to bring my wife's car this time to see if there is anything that can be done to address some clarity issues or if it needs a repaint in those areas. I have done everything but attack it with a rotary and don't want to if I don't have to. Got that paint gauge handy??

Ok on the topic of a form cutting pad and the PC with DACP I have done this before. I had a very bad and disgusting occurance happen a few weeks ago. I was just leaving a mall area and on the way out a truck drove by me and BAM my windshield is covered in I don't know what. Some stupid kids threw a cup at my car full of an unknown substance. So on this very rare occasion I flipped on the wipers and the the washer fluid (I am still on my factory fill of windshild washer fluid after 28,000 miles) to clear it and procede to chase the little bastards. Well they finally evaded me in a neighborhood. So anyways, I am not trying to find a self serve car wash or something as I'm on the opposite end of town to get whatever it is off and I can't for the life of me find one.

So not knowing what else to do I hurry home because I don't know what the hecks on my car now. I get out and discover it's vomit! Luckily most of it's on my windshield so no harm done there, but a few spots of the stomach acid mix makes it to some painted surfaces. It was 11 at night so I just gave the car a wash to get it off for the time. The next day I got to better inspect the damage, there was a small etching on my hood and on the roof above the windshield. So going by the use the least aggressive product necessary I tried DACP with the polishing pad and it didn't quite cut it enough even after several attempts at it. So I figured a cutting pad would be the next step, and it was just enough more to get it out.

I'd still like to have a few words with those kids
                    Later,
                    Ricky

I would call the Police, you must have gotten some of the tag number, that and a discription of the car, plus maybe been in trouble before, and the Police might want to have a few words with them also. Sometimes those guys will surprise you with what they can find out with just a little information. Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear about that incident, that is outright disgusting. Not only is that just plain dumb, but that's a health risk. I hope you are able to resolve the issue somehow, whether it be by way of the police or what. Good luck on the cleanup, i hope it turns out okay.

Well, it happened on private mall property so I don't know how much good law enforcment could have done and in the rage of the moment I didn't think to get thier license plate. Wish I would have, I have my sources of information if necessary . This happened a few weeks ago, all is well again minus a slightly thinner clear coat. I think the damage would have been much worse had I not gotten it off so quickly. I'm just glad I didn't have to resort to the roatary to remove it as one of the spots was right between a body line on the hood and the edge of the hood.
                          Later,

                            Hey Rick,

I am glad that all is well again!!

It just makes me so angry why some people are willingly doing damage to someone elses property and think it is funny!

                              Hi Rick,

Was this Meguiar's W-7006 cutting pad?

If so, did you notice any dulling or marring of the finish afterwords that you had to re-buff with a less aggressive polish, or product to remove?
