Hello, I'm new to the site and I was just wondering, the Medium-cut cleaner says that you can only apply it with a rotary buffer, is this true? Can I not do it by hand?

That product is best applied with a Rotary Buffer. This is a traditional paint cleaner that has a grit type abrasive in it. This abrasive breaks down most effectively with the high speed and heat of a Rotary Buffer. Are you looking for a paint cleaner you can apply by hand? What are you looking to do?

yes, i'm trying to do it by hand because I like to take my time with cleaning my car and I am not skilled with a rotary buffer. I am trying to get rid of swirl marks on my car and a few defects, I have tried the meguiar's swirl remover and that has not removed all the swirls.

Have you tried ScratchX? This is a wonderful product that is best applied by hand. Unfortunately there is only so much you can do by hand. If you have tried # 9 and ScratchX by hand and there are still light swirls a machine maybe needed to remove the rest. If the Rotary Machine is not something that you are looking to do, Meguiar’s G100a Dual action Polisher is a great way to go. This Machine will give you results that you can not achieve by hand yet you do not run the risk of burning your finish. If you have any questions you can always give me a call.

Using rotary-only products by hand/G-100 can cause some serious marring that only a rotary will remove. It's really a bad idea so I strongly encourage you to *NOT* do that. Medium Cut is a rather aggressive product that you oughta be careful with anyhow.

Besides Scratch-X, there are a number of products in-between the extremes of Swirl Mark Remover and Medium Cut, and many of these will work OK by hand. While products like #80, #83, and the new forumulation of #2 are best used by G-100, they'll work OK by hand if you go about it right.
