  • #81 Hand Polish

    Hi All,

Saturday, I detailed a late model Ford Focus for a friend of the family...I always do this lady's car for free each year, because she's had heart surgery before.

Her paint had decent gloss to begin with, but she doesn't wash her car like she should and it shows up in acid rain etching & such.

I had washed, clayed, & used #83 by the time she got off from work. Every one in the house came outside to enjoy the May weather and watch me, just as I was applying #82 with a PC on the hood. I wiped #82 off with a MF and the lady couldn't believe how good it looked.

I then told her about #81 Hand Polish, and I said, "I've never used this before, so I don't know what to expect"...Well, I applied the #81 by hand with a Hi-Tech applicator pad to the clear coat finish, then removed it with a MF towel.

Let me tell you, this lady was beside herself when she saw how beautiful the hood was, and I was amazed myself, as were all the others....#81 gives a very rich, warm look to the paint with plenty of gloss...I think it makes the finish look better than new.

#81 will always be included in my detail jobs from now on!

    This stuff is awesome!

Sorry, no pictures due to lack of DC.

What speed should you use #81 at?

I rarely apply anything by hand, but I didn't have a clean dedicated pad to work with at the time...#81 goes on pretty easy by hand though.

I'll try to get a picture of the car with my 35mm camera this week.

You like the W-9006 pad better than the W-8006 pad for applying this product?

to be honest I never thought of using a polishing pad. when I was given the advise to use #81 it was with a finishing pad so thats all I ever used. now I'm curious what a polishing pad would do.
just when I think I got all the answers.............

                Hey,

I have always used the W-9006 Finishing pad as at this point, you want the least aggressive combo possible to not re-introduce marring back into the surface. Meg's #81 is a pure polish, so IMHO, use the least aggressive method possible to apply and remove the product.

how does the #81 compare with the #7 for depth of gloss, reflectiveness and ease of use ? in particular on a dark blue clear coat.

I would say very similar in looks, you probably couldn't tell side by side.....but so eaasy to work with. I never really had any problems with #7 being hard to work with...just think #81 is way easier.

                        Hey,

I can not see a visual difference between the #7 and the #81. They both provide an incredible gloss though the #81 is a little easier to remove than the #7.

                          I topped it with NXT.

I've noticed that NXT tends to streak just a little when 1st applied....But it looks OK after it has had a few hrs. to cure.

#7 is more labor intensive to remove than #81 is, IMO....#7 was created for single stage paint, but it works on clear coat paint too.

I have used both polishes on clear coat finishes, and I don't like the looks of #7 on on it. To me, #7 imparts a plastic, shiney look to CC that I don't care for.

On the other hand, #81 gives a warm, rich, glossy look to CC paint...But that's no surprise, because it was made for clear coat finishes.

Did you apply nxt with pc? I never had a streaking issue and I'm wondering if maybe there was a slight film of #81 still left? just a thought. I ussally take a mf and do a light swipe after I did entire car just out of habit from when I used #7. now I use a pc and I think you'll agree that you can put a better and thinner coat of product down than by hand. it would be interesting to know if you have that problem when (if) you do #81 with a pc.
                              keep me posted please.
