Fine Cut Cleaner to use only with a rotary buffer ?

I tought about buying Fine-Cut Cleaner #2,but I don't have a rotary buffer and I believe only works with it.

I just want a step above Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner.Will that be a step above ???Or about the same.

I've used fine cut both by hand and by machine, the results are far superior by machine, but it still works by hand.

what about #83 dacp? it's not as aggersive as #2 but its more in line to be used with a pc or hand and #2 is more in line to be used with a rotery only. not that it wouldn't work, just designed with those tools in mind.

Meguiar's #2 Fine Cut Cleaner is indeed designed for use with a rotary buffer. It requires the heat to be broken down properly that only a rotary can do. If you try it with a PC, it will clean the paint, but you will not get the same quality of finish the product is able to provide.

I would instead suggest Meguiar's #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish (DACP). It is slightly more aggressive than the #2, and can be used with great success with a PC.

# 2 Was the very 1st Meguiar's product that I ever owned...Back then (1989) it was ok to use it by hand, and it was the best product that I'd used to date at that time.

Since then, I've noticed that #2 has been reformulated for rotary use only...It is a great product IMO.

That will be for a clear coated dark blue paint,it is in good condition,the worse area is the hood with light swirls marks &
cobweb effect.

Also which pad would I use Polishing or finishing ?

What speed ?

Hey,

Since the car is BC/CC that makes the choice for #83 DACP even more important as it was designed for CC in mind. Meguiar's #2 was designed back when Single Stage paint was the norm.

I would start off using a W-8006 Polishing Pad with the PC set to speed 5.5. Work the product (#83) until only a slight residue/dust remains. Do not dry buff. Then remove with a quality microfiber towel.

Since your paint is a darker color, I would follow the #83 with Meguiar's #82 Swirl Free Polish and a Finishing Pad W-9006 with the PC set to 4-5 for speed. This time, buff the product but remove while still damp.

Since I have no more money left after spending lots of money in detail products

I only thought about the #2,because I I guess it's stronger than MPPC,I don't know.

Well here's my plan

Wash 2 buckets method with NXT
Clay with Mothers + Showtime
Polish with MPPC
Glaze with #7
Wax with M-26

If the MPPC fails to reduce or eliminate the swirls I'll try #82 #83

hey Tim,
I always have to follow up on my truck with #82 on a finishing pad, even with a rotery, if I don't I end up with micro swirls. I always read that people are able tp get that "swirl free" look with a polishing pad. are you saying you need the finishing pad to get that look or is it just choice? I keep trying to find what in my tecnique is wrong, that I need the finishing pad but as of yet I've been unable to figure it out. would be nice to know its not me!

Hey 2000,

You can get a swirl free finish with a polishing pad, but it does take practice knowing what speed and pressure to apply to the Rotary or even the PC. Some paints are just really hard. As a result, it takes a lot of work even with a rotary to remove swirls. On other paints, it is fairly easy to remove the swirls. That is part of the fun! So, it may be your paint rather than anything you are doing or not doing!!

I use a W-9006 Finishing Pad because I love the ultra gloss I get when using that pad! Moreover, because I use it at the finishing stage, I want a pad with the least cut possible so that I can take full advantage of the products and what they were designed for.

I can confirm the above, using #2 with a PC had very little effect on my BC/CC but when I was directed by by 2hotford that #83 DACP is what I should be using with a PC to remove some light sanding scratches he was right on the money

I have been using #2 by hand to help solve minor paint problems since 1986.

When was #2 reformulated for rotary use only?
