I have an older 1999 Pro Gator bass boat. It is mild to moderate oxidation. I used a rotary and a wool pad on it using Mirror Glaze 2 Fine Cut Cleaner, just a small (about 2 foot test section)followed up with #21 Sealant and it alone did a pretty good job. I think I want something with just a bit more cut without removing too much gel coat. Should I go with the Color Restore or the #49 Oxidation Remover?

Re: Color resore or HD oxidation remover?
From the sound of it, I'd look at #49. #49 is actually a pretty light cut compound.
Personally, I've been using #67 (One Step Compound) as a 'go-to' more and more often.
Just to add, when you get all finished and done, #44 is a really good 'maintenance' product.

Re: Color resore or HD oxidation remover?
We're with Bill on this - M67 One Step Compound tends to be our "go to" on gel coat as well, and given that your boat dates to 1999 we're inclined to think this is the right approach. You don't have to get super aggressive in the application process of it, but you might be surprised at how effective it is when you do put a bit of energy into it. And don't worry about removing too much of the gel coat - that stuff is much thicker than automotive paint and far harder as well. The Fine Cut Cleaner you used on it previously is really light duty stuff so we wouldn't expect it to knock your socks off on the boat. M67 will get you a far better result in much less time.Michael Stoops

Re: Color resore or HD oxidation remover?
Like Mike said don't worry about gel coat as it is harder then automotive paint. About 50% of my business is RV/Marine. I ONLY use M105/205 in my arsenal. Rotary buffer and a wool pad or Meguiars Maroon pad with M105 heavy oxidation and Meguiars yellow polishing pad with M205 for minor - medium oxidation removal followed by your choice of sealant or wax.
For scratches, swirl sand minor paint defects use the DAMF system with the D300 Correction Compound. I a currently detailing a 35Ft Magic Performance (retails for $110k) using Maroon pad and M105 for heavy oxidation.Ryan Rehart

Re: Color resore or HD oxidation remover?
Thanks everyone, either the oxidation wasn't as bad as I thought or that stuff, the #67, works wonders. I used my rotary with a wool pad and it came right off. But I do have one more question, how do you get the part inside the boat between the inside ledge and the (about an inch) piece between the carpet and the side? Cant get the rotary in there without fear of ruining the carpet. Its almost more like a heavy caked on dirt than oxidation. the guy I got the boat from wasn't much on maintenance (tournament fisherman) as far as cosmetics and I don't think it has ever been washed much less waxed. Would something like Castrol Super Clean maybe help without hurting the gel coat?
