  • Fiberglass Restoration System

Im going to use the Fiberglass Restoration System on our 23" Hurricane Center console tomorrow and had a few questions. Is this similar to the car where I would use the yellow pad on the Meguiars DA Polisher with the #49 Oxidation Remover and seperate black pads for the polish and wax products? Also is the #49 oxidation remover like the swirl X or Ultimate Compound for the car where it has to be removed while it's still wet? The polish is removed wet? The wax dries before removing? Thanks for any help and look forward to my boat looking as good as my car did after using Meguiars products!

Basically the same, but you may need to move up a notch to the cutting pad. Gel Coat will be harder than car paint.

But yes, the basic ideas are all the same.

Not sure where #49 falls.. sounds similar to UC.

Thanks for the info Murr. Speeds would be similar as well? 4-5 for oxidation remover and 2-3 for polish and wax?

Well, waxing/polishing would be the same.

Again, little faster would be more agressive if needed.

Obviously test spot/area first to dial things in.

Chris, you've got the right idea about everything here - your questions can be converted into answers simply by removing the question marks at the end! Don't overthink things - if you're familiar with using a DA on your car, then everything you know transfers over to working on gel coat. Of course, as Mat points out, gel coat tends to be much harder than paint so the going may be a bit slower.

              Re: Fiberglass Restoration System

I used this for the first time last year on a 32' RV. The novel conclusion I came to was that: if I followed the included instructions, it worked VERY well. Any "creativity" on my part did not improve things and generaly made things worse. :-)

If memory serves, it is the polish that needs to come off wet and they aren't kidding.

It was yet another great Meguiar's product(s)!
