I'm thinking about trying out my new da microfiber pads on on of the sailboats I race on. If I want to use one of marine line cleaners, which one will work best with the new pads, #67 or #91?
After the official release of the MF System, a few who had/have used it commented on how well D300/301 did on gelcoat. If anyone had used 'blue bottle' product, that didn't say.
With that said, if and when it ever becomes 'non-winter', I plan on giving the system a go on a few RVs.
I had a chance to do some experimenting yesterday on a bigger boat I am detailing. There is a section of the sunshade which is out of reach, so I needed to come up with some way of polishing it. I ended up zap-strapping and duct taping my da to the end of a broom stick!!!
I tried the da microfiber system with # 300 and # 91. On gel-coat that was moderately chalky, the 300 left behind a nice pink tint to the white gel, which was even there a little after following up with 301.
The # 91 worked better, but not as easily as with the rotary. Having a clean pad was crucial, and I found that after working a section to the point where the 91 had almost totally broken down, I had to clean the pad then finish the area without adding anymore compound.
I then finished up with the 301 and black da pad, and it looks great. Monday I'll finish up with some 21.
To sum up, looks like the marine line stuff works best on tired gel-coat, with the rotary being the quickest way of tackling the problem, but it's nice to have a way of using a "buffer on a stick" if needed.
