  • Metal Flake Bass Boat

I have a bass boat with a metal flake gel coat, I have some oxidation in the some parts with the flake. I want to try and restore it the best way possible. I don't want to use to strong of a compound to cut down in the flake. What system do your reccomend for me to do to give it the best shine. I know the gel coat will dull out from the sun burning back and dull from the reflection off the flake. Any help will work

    Thanks

Take a look at the Meguiar's boat/rv line (blue bottle). They have a couple of ready to go kits for 'restoration'.

Oh where...go to Megs home page (upper right - second logo in) and you'll see 'products' in the bar at the top. Sorry for not givin' ya a link, don't know how.

I'm sure others will chime in with more info.

Gel coat is much harder, and much thicker, than automotive paint so it usually requires a bit more aggressive product to correct oxidation, scratches, etc. Depending on the severity of the defect and your method of application (hand, DA, rotary) we would suggest either our M49 Oxidation Remover or M67 One Step Compound, with M67 being the more aggressive of the two.

While we understand your reluctance to use anything overly aggressive to correct the oxidation, you are going to need some level of abrasiveness to do so, otherwise you're just covering things up. The trick is to not just grab the most aggressive product you can find, but rather the one that is just aggressive enough to get the job done.

Dont forget Meguiars Flagship Premium Marine Wax after you polish !

Having owned a metalflake Checkmate,The oxidation will return quickly unless you get a coat of good marine wax on it!
