  • Product recommendation for a bass boat in good condition

Got a year 2000 bass boat with the fiberglass in good condition. The previous owner kept it garaged so there is little or no oxidation. There are a few scratches and rubs from the boat dock and trailer that I plan to buff/sand out. After that I want to shine it up with a good polish and put a coat of wax on.

The wax I'm pretty much decided on the Flagship Marine wax as the last step.

The scratches are pretty deep so I'll need to wetsand them with 1500 grit maybe 800 grit to get down the the bottom so they dont show up as white scratches on the dark gray gellcoat.

What compound would be good to buff off the 1500 grit sand marks from the gell coat?

After that I'll go over the entire boat to bring the boat to a polished shine.

What would be a good product for this that would be followed by the Flagship wax?

I have a PC with light and medium cut pads. (LC white and orange)

    thanks

M49 Heavy Duty Oxidation Remover and M44 Color Restorer are sort of the workhorse products in our Marine/RV line and should serve you well for light to moderate (and even slightly above that) oxidation, swirls, etc. M67 One Step Compound would be a good choice for removing sanding marks, but you might be challenged to do so with just a D/A rather than a rotary. We would suggest you do a small test spot first before trying to knock down a large area only to find you can't sufficiently remove those sanding marks. That would take all the fun out it for you.

      Thanks Michael.

I did a test spot with some 1500 grit sand paper and buffed it out with ScratchX and orange pad cut down to 4" diamater. This worked very well. Now the scratch looks like a gentile wrinkle in the gelcoat instead of a nasty white scratch.

I'm pretty sure I could get the rest if the scratched out the same way.

Tell me about the Flagship Cleaner wax vs flagshp wax.

Does it last as long as flagship wax. Is the cleaner good enough to knock off water mild spots and brighten the shine while applying a durable wax finish?

      thanks
