  • Compounding, Specific Pads, etc...

Last year I used the Megs Fiberglass Restoration System on my boat. It did a pretty good job, went from almost pink back to red. However, seems like the oxidation is already coming back. And the white up top never got quite as white as I was looking for. So I want to dig deeper this years. Going to use the Power Cut Compound then follow up with the polish and wax from last years kit.

    Couple of questions...
    1. Should I use the the 49 Oxidation Remover after the Power Cut Compound and before the polish? Or just go straight to the polish after the power cut?

    2. Having trouble finding the pads on Mag's online store. I did a search for wool and found the hook and loop pad for compounding. There are a few foam pads for polishing but I don't see enough info to really determine the best to use.

Here are a couple of before and after pics. She's a 69 Correct Craft Mustang 16 Foot with a Ford 302 Holman Moody. Not quite as shiny as she looks in the pic. This was taken right after the buffing before last season.

I never go with a "polish or oxidation remover" after the compounding stage
(ie. M91). I only use M91 Power cut on my jobs and then move straight to the Flagship Premium Marine Wax. The pics look good, but if it is not maintained, it WILL come back to haunt you. I work on many boats that are in similar condition as the first pic! I offer a discount if they keep bringing the boat back every couple of months to keep it up for them to keep the "hard" work and high dollar fix, and oh yeah and a pain in my butt, out of the equation... LOL

I love those old Correct Crafts! Detail that trailer up and it will look like a jewel as a package! Nice work according to the pics!
