  • wet sanding and buffing boats

    Hey guys,

I was just curious if any of you have been wet sanding and buffing boats and what the "going" rate is for this... I have owned my own company (Stellar Marine Detailing) for a few years with every customer very happy and have been detailing in general ever since I can remember...

Let's just say we are working on a 20' boat and VERY badly oxidized... What are you guys charging? Like I said I have done a bunch of it, but want to know what others are charging per foot... No one really speaks of it on their websites.

    Your input is appreciated!

By the way, I just want to be fair with the pricing compared to what everyone else is charging. I have never had a complaint of the price nor the result. Just curious...
    I love referrals! =)

Pricing will vary in different parts of the country so sometimes comparisons from one detailer to another don't always mean a lot.

What are you currently charging for correction of heavy defects that do NOT include wet sanding? You might want to use that as a starting point and add a 25-30% premium for the sanding step. Keep in mind that if the sanding step is done correctly the follow up rotary buffing should be easier than buffing out severe defects on their own.

        Thanks Michael,

I do upcharge approximately that amount when wet sanding is necessary. And YES, it is much easier to take the extra step and wet sand it before you high speed buff when oxidation is very heavy. For one, it takes a lot less product and second it never has the clarity that it does when wet sanded and buffed properly. Megs products are amazing and have had absolutely the most positive compliments! My favorite so far is the M91 compound! It is by far the most used in my arsenal! Blue bottles demand respect! Check my gallery of some of the boats I have worked on in the past few weeks! All Megs products! Every one was wet sanded as well.... ugh! =)

        Thanks again Michael.
