  • 56 Pure Wax for winter car protection?

I just picked up a Fiberglass Restoration kit as I'm planning on working on a 1972 Grew boat that I inherited from my Grandfather.

I'm just learning about Meguiars Marine products and am aware that Meguiars doesn't endorse the use of the Marine line on cars, but I do have a question.

No. 56 Pure Wax is formulated for durability against water and salt conditions, and I was wondering if this would be a good durable wax to use during the winter time here in Canada?

Do you think it would offer any better protection compared to NXT or GC (I currently use both)?

You're best bet in this application would be Flagship Premium Marine Wax, without a doubt. It's a polymer protectant that will outlast any of the other products you mentioned and provides superior UV protection - specifically designed for gel coat use so as not to cause any yellowing, which some automotive products can do to a gel coat.

While you can use automotive products on gel coats, keep in mind that gel coat is much more porous than paint and as such the bonding of product to surface is a bit different. You won't get the maximum out of an automotive product when using it on gel coat.

Adding to what Mike said, you can also look at Collinite wax products. Probably the longest lasting waxes on the market today. Paste and liquid products are both very good, check out the 845 Insulator Wax and the Fleet Wax (paste I think).

It's great for boats and even better for auto protection!
