  • Better Suited with Makita B06040

Would I be better suited with the Makita B06040 than the Porter Cable 7424? Here's a link describing it.

Car Buffers, Polishers & Pads - Buffers are not just for the professional detailer anymore! Car detailing continues to evolve and become more involved all the time. The constant bombardment of new items and products can be mind-boggling. We try to ...

Not really. Yes it switches to rotary action but it doesnt have the RPM needed to polish.
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.

For that kind of money you would be better off buying a Flex VRG 3401

Is that to say that a PC 7424 isn't very effective with polish? If so, that may be the reason why my finish is still cloudy. Maybe I would be better off using a rotary machine to apply the polish.

Gelcoats are harder than automotive paints, so while the ideas are the same, not all of the products/techniques carry over.

Any chance of any pics of your boat, or description of where you started, what you did, where you are at now?

The PC has been used to polish more cars successfully than anyone can count, it's a proven tool that will give you better results faster than working by hand.

It could be there's another reason why your finish is cloudy?

            Can you share,
            1. What are you working on?
            2. What is the original problem with the paint?
            3. What type of pad did you use?
            4. What products are you using?
            5. What speed setting did you use?
            6. How big of an area did you buff at one time?

See Vast Improvement On RV Gelcoat for a detailed description of my project. I started a few other related threads to get a better understanding of the individual products used. Here's another picture of the RV.
