  • boat restore kit

Working on my boat.. sides are going great, but the top is pure hell.

Bought the 'Fiberglass Restoration Kit' which includes M49, M45, and M46.

The sides (which are dark colors) are turning out great, however, on the top (which is white), the M49 doesn't touch it.. it smoothes it out to a shine, but, it's still crazy oxidized. Every time I redo a spot it gets a little better, but, this will take ridiculously long. All of the powder coming off of it is just loading up my pad.

I've been using a wool buff pad on a rotary and was going to finish up with foam for polish and wax using g110.

i just ordered the Solo cutting pad and M91 to try and get the top shiny again. Sound like a good idea? Anything else I should look at or anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Re: boat restore kit

I have a boat that is severely oxidized and have been just taking my time and working small sections at a time.

Here's this, might give the M91 a try and if it's still not working effectively enough let us know...

M49 Oxidation Remover is the least aggressive of these 3...

M67 One Step Compound next in line and was designed more for hand application but can be used by machine for 2000 grit or finer

M91 Power Cut Compound is the most aggressive...It was designed to remove up to 1000 - 1200 grit on gel coat by rotary machine but can also be used by hand.

      Trying to read this right..

Would that mean, after the 91, hit it with 105 then 45, then 46?

or, will 91>45>46 do the trick?

      Thanks Mike!

Mike, are 91 and 105 similar? I have a lot of 105 and am working a 1973 MFG that is orange and never been buffed. Does 91 have more cut than 105?
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.
