  • OK to use marine products on car?

My wife has done gone & washed her car with Dawn dish soap since she couldn't find my car wash stuff!

I am pretty sure I need to hurry up & get some wax back on the car but don't have the cash to go buy any wax until next week.

Will it be ok to use my marine products on the car for now? Any negatives to doing this I need to know about?

The pure wax would probably be ok, but I wouldnt use any cleaners, they are made for a different type of coating.

I do have some Love Bug spots on the hood from a trip to Houston this weekend...So, I should NOT try my cleaner/wax (marine) on it to remove them?

How about the Marine Polish stuff I have? I forget the number on it.

As Matt posted, you should be okay with products like M56 or Flagship, anything that has to do with cleaning in a Marine line tends to be more aggressive because you can get more aggressive with Marine finishes.

What you want to do is soften the bugs and you do this best with water... check out page 2 of this thread...

Bugs, Bugs, BUGS, and MORE BUGS!!!!!

See above, you want to soften the bugs so they will loosen and wash off or wipe off, you don't really want to rub them off as this might scratch your car's paint.

In '82 I bought a car in Miami during L Bug season and drove it back to DC. Not sure if I would use this product or method again, but at the time it was the easiest thing to get a hold of. I Armor-all'd the you-know-what out of the front end, rear view mirrors and windshield surround, without a wipe down. Then reapplied more at gas stops. I wonder if a similar treatment would be advisable today and with what product. The bugs washed off a 1000% easier.

If the product being used doesn't hurt anything and later on you can wash it off, then it couldn't be any worse than when people create a full auto bra using blue painter's tape that they later have to peel off.

From the few pictures I've seen of how bad the front of your car can get from hitting Love Bugs during the height of their season, than something is better than nothing....

You mean your area isn't blessed with the presence of love bugs? Must be nice!
