  • Using 3 step Marine & RV products

I am using the 3 step process on the 40' RV (bus type). Yes it is a lot of work even with the DA but well worth it from my perspective... I have three questions..

    * First thank you Meguiar's---> Boy do I love the Marine canuba wax. It goes on nice and comes off easy. 2nd coat is as easy as the first

    1. Is there any problem using the marine steps on the non gelocoat parts of the RV? I have a bus type RV with gelcoat and painted aluminum

    2. The polish seems to dry real quick. I shortened the patch I was doing and it went better, but now seems to be over applied. I am using #3 on the DA.. Am I doing something wrong?

    3. Now for the problem, the oxidation step on DA #3 still seems to leave the swirls that I was hoping to remove. Should I kick the DA up to #4 or #5 or switch products. I am a bit concerned to cut to deep as the graphics are where the spiders or swirls are imbedded..

** :> I am not pushing it doing a section of the 40' coachmen at a time... Love the summer in CT..

Thank you in advance for any help....

The compounds are too aggressive for use on automotive paints so you're much safer to stick with our automotive paint care products for the painted aluminum components.

Hmmm... specifically, which polish are you using? Might try bumping the speed up to 4.0

Also which pad are you using? A yellow polishing pad works best for applying a pure polish.

You need to use a higher speed setting, like the 5.0

Which specific product are you using and which foam pad?

I have found if you are in the sun, the surface is warm to the touch (even out of the sun), or if it is above 85-90 out the #45 polish seems to dry quickly and I am not able to work it as much as I would like (this is from my experience in arid, hot Northern California). I solved this problem by working at night or in the early morning and investing in a few halogen lights on telescoping stands.

You do not mention it but are you working outside?

Thanks Mike will avoid the compounds on the lower unit.... Glad I asked you are a asset to this website...

I do like the canuba wax over the NXT wax, just personal I guess but it just feels and looks better to me..Trying to figure why this is...Both are your products..

---- MArine polish-- I tried the 4.0 and it does last a bit longer but 2-3 passes and it drys out. I am doing the detailing from 6-8pm east coast and it it not sunny in the area I am working... But todays session was way above yesterday, the 4.0 was better

Re: Using 3 step Marine & RV products

One question before I start What is the best fast wax to use on Marine canuba wax???

Well thanks to all.. (Mike and others I appreciate all the help along the way!!!!After practicing last few weeks on the family drivers , not using Marine products...... ( All friends love what I did and want to now try their hand using Mequiar's products)

I completed the 40' RV with the Marine 3 step process, oxidation/polish/wax, yes, 2 coats of the Marine Canuba wax.. Then I used the plastic cleaner and polish to dress up the digishield on the front of the rig... and NXT on the lower doors ...All with the Mequiar's DA110 .Whew it was fun, but I honestly feel it , guess I feel like all my 46 years .... Multiple ladder climbing

I also dressed the tires with mequiar's tire dressing and chrome dressed the wheel covers and exhaust pipes... Yes it is a thing of beauty... (Beauty is in the eye of the detailer)

The next few weeks I will apply the awning canvas cleaner and sealer....(just need to recover a bit)

Future waxing will be the polish/wax product which should keep it better than show room clean with less time.

Off to NYS next weekend for family camping so I hope to take a few digital pictures of the rig to post..

I am glad it worked out for you... Megs makes some amazing products for sure. Do you happen to have any pictures you could share?

I think it is recommended to us the finishing pad to APPLY the wax and the microfiber bonnet over the cutting pad to REMOVE the wax.

Just curious...which RV do you have? Is it full body painted or gelcoat upper and painted lower? If gelcoat upper...it that part clearcoated? I too will be doing my RV.

                      Poki,

OK, I have paint over fiberglass (fancy swirls etc..) on the uppers and is why I moved the pads around a bit. I did not want to risk abraising the finish on the uppers. So used yellow pad for oxidation (more to just really clean the finish) , then fine pad for polish and fine for wax and red pad with MF for removal of wax.

I was being a bit cautious for the first go round. But when you pay what we do for class A motorcoach I was a bit conservative. I used the NXT on the painted metal doors on the bottom. I will take some pictures on my weekend outing. I will state it looks and feels like glass...

Let me know how you make out. There was just something about using a cutting pad on the uppers that scared me a bit..But will try next time...

I don't think we should use the "cutting pad" for anything other than in conjunction with a mf bonnet to remove the wax. It's a firmer pad and works well with the bonnet stretched over it.

Just posted three pictures of the RV from the weekend. (Search on Snifferdog) Unfortunately my wheels were shot after driving through some mudd going into my campsite.. This shine was after I drove through a hard rain... The 3 step Marine and RV process rocks...... It was the most reflective RV in the campground..
