Product for the job?

I recently purchased a porter cable 7424 dual action polisher and I am eager to use it. Our boat has a dark navy blue colored hull; scratches and swirls are clearly visible in the sun. I am looking for a polish that is not too abrasive, will remove swirls, and light scratches. At the same time it should restore the color. Finally I can remove those scratches left from the dealer doing a poor job shrink wrapping the boat.

I am looking at Mirror Glaze #50 to do the job, If I use this product can I top it off with Meguiars Flagship Wax? Is Meguiars Flagship wax a cleaner wax?

Boat is fairly new about 1.5 years old. Never been polished before.

Thinking about #50>Meguiars Flagship Wax> then finally #26 for an extra pop.

Meguiars Marine M45
NXT x 2 with PC
#26 x 1 or 2


the gel coats are very hard and the rotary seems to work best. top off with NXT and the PC and you're set.

you might not need to clay with the One Step Compound but do a test spot and see you like the results.

Is m67 a safe product to use? I see that it is a compound.

Since this is a one step compound, why would I want to use m45 afterwards?

does m67 cause marring?

Its not like our boat has been neglected it gets waxed three times a year, and washed after each run.

Hey,

Just to jump in here...

Meguiar's #67 is a very aggressive compound designed for severly oxidized or neglected gel coats. I use this stuff a lot, and while it is an excellent product, it is way too strong for minor marring.

Gel coats are harder than regular paint and therefore required a bit more work. I would suggest using a G100 DA polisher, a W-8006 Polishing Pad and #44 Color Restorer. If that is not aggressive enough, move up to #49 and then back down through #44. Be sure to use one product per pad. Then take a W-9006 Finishing Pad and #45 Boat Polish to really bring out the gloss.

**Remember...start with the least aggressive product first that will do the job!

Meguiar's #50 Cleaner Wax is very mild and will work on very mild marring. However, I think you would be better off using #44 first.

Finish using a marine specific wax like Meguiar's excellent #63 Flagship Wax

As I said, This boat is well taken care of. It was the dealer who messed up and put scratches on my gel coat when they were shrink wrapping for winterization.

The swirls are VERY minor and can only be seen in direct sunlight.

If I am correct #44 should do it.
Will #45 be able to get rid of swirls? I am not fond of buying too many products. They are expensive.

only two parts of the boat are like this, everything else is scratch free except for swirls.

Hey,

No, #45 is a pure polish only. It's job is to add polishing oils to the gel coat in order to bring out a rich and glossy finish.
