    Mike et. al:

I haven't had the luxury of trying this particular product out but, I'm very interested in it from a PROTECTION standpoint.

While I know this is a marine product and thus, is probably geared more towards that type of application, could it potentially be used on uncoated (no clear) wheels or exhaust tips for added protection above and beyond a synthetic?

My concern is the high-heat aspect that both areas might yield.

    Thoughts and opinions are appreciated!

    Thanks!

    Hi Brad,

This is a product that we just haven't used very much, as such we don't know about the heat issues you bring up but we will pass the link to this thread onto Mike Pennington who should be able to get that information for you.

    Thanks!

As far as an auto application...It could potentially be used for that, and we are doing some additonal testing as we speak.

Fun fact...the Military is testing it also)

Comparing the 2...synthetic vs. Metal Guard....2 totally different applications. Metal Guard is more of a coating, which is extremely durable...it is a spray on application, which is thick.

Maybe you'll see us launch a new auto application in the near future

        Re: #92 Metal Guard

Thanks guys. I appreciate your quick response.

The product looks very interesting to me in that it seems like a good alternative to a synthetic specifically for uncoated metals. I'll periodically peak my head back in on this thread to see if you guys have any new information to report.

Pretty cool that the military is tinkering with this one too! I'd be exceedingly interested in hearing more about their testing if you can disclose any of that info!!

Thanks again. Take care guys... good hearing from both of you.

          Re: #92 Metal Guard

They are testing it for corrosion resistance....That is about all I can say

          Early indicators are very favorable

Thanks for the info Mike... that's pretty cool.

I may snare a can of this stuff on my next ADS order (I have a gift cert that is burning a hole in my pocket and I'm almost out of Hyper Dressing).

Hope all is well with you... thanks again for the information. I appreciate all of your help!

Cool! I like the sound of that. Corrosion resistance would be great up here with all the road salt in the winter.

                Great point.

Mike -- can you tip your cards a bit more and mention if they're experimenting with it in a saltwater environment or if this is more of a 'land' application?

Come on... we all have top level military clearance here! It's not like this is a public forum! HAHAHA!

Any new developments on this from a R&D standpoint, Mike? Just curious to hear how the testing has gone/went for the military.

I almost snared a can of it from ADS on my last order but held off pending reading/hearing a little more about it.

                    Re: #92 Metal Guard

                    Hey Brad,

I can not comment on the military testing, but I have finished mine. The verdict: awesome stuff!!!

I have tried it on chrome hitches to bumpers to boats to RV rails to you name it! It works fantastic!!

The key is to apply a THIN even coat and allow at least 10 minutes for it to flow together before successive coats. If you jump the gun and apply it too soon, you will be greeted with orange peel! It takes a strong solvent to remove it so a screw up must be avoided! Trust me!

I would be leery about using it on a chrome bumper as you can still see it slightly and you can feel the slightly sticky feel of it, but it sure does work! This summer I will be coating my light bar to protect it from bugs etc...

                      Re: #92 Metal Guard

Tim - thanks so much for your response. I know it's a new product but, it doesn't seem like many have tried it. As always, your opinion has been one that I consider to be gospel and I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to tell me about your testing with the product.

One quick question for you, Tim... what do you think about using this on a exhaust tip or on a chrome wheel? Both environments are obviously harsh from a temperature environment and thus I really think that it'd test just about any product of this nature.

Further, your comment about it being slightly 'sticky' worries me to a certain extent for certain automotive applications....

Now, before everyone piles on and says 'this isn't an automotive product...', I'm aware of that. But, that said, I'm just trying to expand upon the productivity of a product that is obviously holding up to a high standard...

Everyone's looking for an 'edge' in their aresonal... I've been eyeballing this product for a while hoping to give it a try. So far, I've held on pulling the trigger...

Again, thanks for your help, Tim. Shoot me an email when you get a chance... we should catch up.

                        Re: #92 Metal Guard

                        Hey RP,

                        Thanks for the compliments!

As for the uses, I would not use it on wheels. Like I said, it leaves a "slightly" grippy feel that would concern me when brake dust enters the equation. Also, because of the strong solvent base, I would be leery to use it on chrome exhaust pipes. I am not sure how flamable it would be once the carrier has evaporated, but I would be careful just in case.

I do know that I applied it to my boat in October and the aluminum still looks fantastic! So much so, that I may not have to detail the boat for the fishing season! I probably will anyway as that is just me! But it looks that good!

I will send you an email tonight! It is good seeing you on MOL!!
