  • Gel Coats scratches from Boat Cover

Hi, I'm new to this website so please for give me if this is the wrong place to post this question. I have a 98 Forwinns boat 20' and have kept it in great condition. Over the years the boat cover has created some scratches in the gel coat that can't seem to be removed by hand and with a stron cleaner wax. I am not afraid to use a buffer but I do not want to dull the finish using the wrong product. What would the forum recomend for me to bring the finish back.

It's hard to say without seeing the scratches, but from my experience, the only way to get rid of them is wetsanding.

I have had luck hiding these types of scratches, try Meguiars heavy duty oxidation remover # 49, followed by boat and rv polish # 45, then top it off with Flagship wax # 63.

I just finished a friends 20' Mariah with scratches from the canvas (actually caused by dirt and salt trapped between canvas and Gelcote) I will post some pictures after I crop and resize them.

    Good Luck

    Glenn

Thank you for the reply. I have a feeling it is not much different from the boat you just finished. What you see on my boat is dullness on certain areas of the upper deck where the canvas rubbed. Maybe by using a buffer it will help. I tried removing them last year by hand but had no luck even with a little compound.

Try megs one step compound I have used this to take out wet sanding marks in boats gel coat many times. Plus leaves a nice finish to work with. Greg
