Re: Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish

How does it compare to NXT for use on chrome? I would assume similar to uncoated aluminum but I'm not totally sure. How about heat resistance. I would be using it on chrome exhaust tips.

I wouldn't if they are clear-coated (which is probably a 99% chance). I treat clear-coated wheels like paint

Looking forward to trying this on my motorcycle! Especially, if it's better than NXT.

So now I'm curious..does NXT protect against oxidation better, or is this superior all around?

The label does not mention anything about protection. So am I to assume that it offers no protection?

            Not to hijack.

but which one is newer and better. Hot rims polish or NXT polish(I can't find the nxt stuff anway been to 9 stores) I have chrome wheels.

Currnetly I use mothers and am happy but wanted to try the meguiars. I just don't know which one is the better one to purchase.

            Thanks!

              Newer - Hot Rims
Better - Hot Rims (according to I have heard.)

I just got some but I have not used it yet. Looks to be very promising.

Just a note. Do NOT use Hot Rims on clear coated chrome. If your wheels are chrome treat them the same as paint. On mine I use #80 to clean them, then top with wax.

From my testing, Hot Rims works great on uncoated aluminum. And some bathroom fixtures... lol

I have Chrome ZR1 vette wheels. I usually use mothers mag polish. So your saying DO NOT use nxt polish on mine or hott rims? I'm confused lol.

I been reading a lot so hope these are not dumd questions(the search button is my friend)

Do they clear coat chrome? Chrome is pretty hard (but thin so it's possible) and is pretty resistant to tarnish/oxidation.

I end up treating chrome like paint anyways. I often use glass cleaner or car wash soap and a cleaner wax/sealant...I bet something like ColorX would work well

I would like to see Meguiar's produce or market a product as a metal sealant..especially something high temp compatible for motorcycle exhaust...I think a sub-line created/marketed/labeled for motorcycle care would be a good idea.

There is a product like that in the Marine Line, but no one has tested it on an exhaust yet, or muffler, or anything.

No problem! On the Hot Rims it says not to use on clear coated. Im not sure if you can use it on chrome that is not clear coated. Im at work and don't have it here to read. Here's a link that might help you some... Chrome Wheels...

Otherwise maybe someone else can answer that...

Re: Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish

If your wheels are chrome, they are probably not clear coated. The NXT All Metal Polysh will work great on them! I use it on my chrome exhaust tips. Even after a few months, when I go to put another coat of NXT on them, there is very little black residue so they are being protected very well.

If your wheels are clearcoated, they are most likely polished aluminum, in which case you should use a sealant like #20 or #21 instead.

I have not had much experience with the Hot Rims, but it does shine nicely and is easy to use. I don't know how long the protection lasts, even if it does have protection.

I'm all confused lol. I got some HOT Rims now, (I can not find the toher). I have some polised alum z06 wheels and some chrome Zr1 wheels. Is hot rims safe on either one?

I usually clean with windshileld non-ammonia based, then use mothers mag&allumim polish, then try to put a coat of wax on.

Can I user hotrims on either of my wheels.

These wheels are like mine(got 2 sets one for each car)

Thanks, going to clean up today since it will be 70 here

                              sonofjesse,

I have used the new hot rims polish on my polished z06 wheels and it works great!

My polished z06 wheels are not clearcoated.

Thank you sir. I"ll try it out this evening. I had seen where lots of users are using it on chrome, so I'm going to test it out a small part and see what it does.
