  • Introducing myself

    Hey guy's,

    I just registerd to this forum and first let me tell you something
    about myself:

    I come from the Netherlands ( forgive me if i make to many language mistakes ) and recently i bought my self
    an other car, it's an Skoda Octavia and i don't think it's well
    known in the U.S. please correct me if i'am wrong here.

    The car was not new but 4 years old and in pretty good shape.
    It has a dark blue metallic collour. So i decided to keep it that way.

    Then i watched a Meguiar's detailing demo, and i said to myself
    that's the stuff i got to have for my car and i just had to buy
    some things to get started right a way, so i came home with
    these products:

    Nxt gen. car wash
    Quick clay detailing system
    Scratchx
    Step 1 dc paintcleaner
    Step 2 dc polish
    Step 3 dc carnaubawax
    Quickwax
    Nxt speeddetailer
    Nxt glasscleaner
    Endurance tyre gel
    Trimdetailer
    The ultimate washmitt
    4 high tech app. pads
    4 ultimate wipes
    The watermagnet

    And i have to say i love all of these products a lot
    It just works great and it even smells nice also.

    I try now to keep my car in top shape with Meguiar's
    no other stuff is allowed to " touch " my car again.
    Every weekend i wash and detail my car with such joy now.

    Here i have a before picture:

    This is a after picture:

    Not all of the swirls are gone ( did it all by hand ) but the scratchx made a big difference.
    In the near future i will try to master myself with D.A. polishing etc.

    Here are some more " after pic's ":

    Well that's it by now i guess

    Kind regards,

    Berend Bentlage

    Welcome to Meguiar's and I must say that you got yourself a very nice looking ride there. I would also say that you got a decent amount of good supplies for the start of your collection

                      @Maniac: Nice result, especially with the swirls. Can you explain how you exactly worked them out? I had also great results with PC and ScratchX, but at the weekend I tried to remove the the "DEaler installed swirls" but still after more than 3 or 4 steps there was not really some changing. These scratches look like yours, you can not feel them...

                      I used the applicator pad with some pressure to rub the scratchX in, then I let it dry a little bit, then i removed the product with a microfiber towel (also with a terry towell) - this time there was no result. I removed a lot of small and big scratches with scratchX in the past, but on this car I´m getting crazy...

                        Thanks everyone for the nice responses.

                        Well Tuningfreak,

                        I think that i worked almost the same way like you described
                        i also did apply the scratchx with a appl. pad on a small area
                        and sometimes 2 or 3 times depends on the amount of swirls
                        with quit some musclepower i must say
                        then i used a ultimate wipe microfiber cloth to remove the
                        scratchx from the paint. The whole job took me 2 full day's!
                        The short version:

                        * Washing
                        * Claying
                        * Sratchx
                        * Step 2+3
                        * Waxing
                        * Detailing

                        Maybe you got a dfferent kind of clear coat ( hardness )

                        What kind of car you worked on?

                          It has been a Vauxhall Tigra Twintop. I also did nearly the same steps like you - took also around 8 hours to complete (this time I didnt polish or use paintcleaner, only wax this time).

                            Well it looks great, nice shine and beautiful colour that likes
                            to being cared of. Like i said in the start of this thread that not
                            all of my swirls were gone but the most of all have disappered.

                            Are you familiar with mechanized polishing? i think that will clear
                            your problem and maybe mine i understood that it's possible
                            to use the scratchx with a orbital polishing machine?

                              I think I will learn to use a machine - I used yesterday the cablefree buffer from meguiars and the batteries last maximum 15-20 minutes (1 only 10) - it was really bad, so I think there is no way out instead of buying a high quality buffer. This will for sure solve the swirl problem, but first I have 2 learn! ;-)
