  • Weekend Mustang Project

Hello! This is my first posting to the Meguiars forum. Here are some pictures of my project this past Sunday. The car is a 1995 Mustang GT; it came to me with a lot of fine scratches and a rather hazy finish. It also a lot of dirt trapped under the bra that not only left more scratches there, but also a very noticeable line across the hood.

First thing was to try to improve the headlights. They were very much yellowed and you could not see into them at all. Wet sanded the covers with 1500 followed by 2000 grit paper. Followed up by Meguiars PlastX polish. They are by no means perfect but they do look much better and should allow a lot more light for safety.

    After

Second I washed the car down using a 3 bucket system. One for the wheels/Tires, one for soap, and one for rinsing wash mitt. With all the dirt on the hood, I used one wash mitt only on the hood and then a second for the rest of the car.

After rinsing, I dried it using a Meguiars water magnet towel, then went back over with an m.f. and an air compressor with an air gun tip to get out any water left hiding in any of the crevious.

Once all was dry, I went over entire car with the quick detailer and clay. I used the #82 swirl free polish on a 8006 pad with the PC set to 5. The #82 removed a vast majority of the paint defects. The owner was absolutely amazed with the results. He got so giddy about it, he is looking into having the front bumper repainted to bring it up to the rest of the car now.

After polish was wiped off, I applied two coats of NXT liquid wax with the PC set to 3 and the 9006 pad.

Great work on the stang, considering all you used to polish was #82.

#82 is a very overlooked product. Now I know it wont remove deeper and most isolated scratches but it always amazes me how well it will remove mos cob-web scratches. And its reflection is outstanding! Mustang looks great.

Thanks! I did a section of the hood first with the #82 that looked the worse due to the bra. I was then able to get through the haze and scratches and discover they were indeed light. It looked great, so I went with it on the entire car.

The owner just called me. He just got back from a business trip and left his car a a rental place. Sprinklers got to it this morning. He's busy re-washing and quick detailing this morning.
