  • What we do for our In-Laws

You know how us newbies to the "real" detailing world always are looking for something to take on ?...well I took on my in-laws 1997 Buick Century Custom over the weekend....it's a daily driver, never, ever garaged (remember, I'm in Buffalo, NY)...my Father in law helped me out a couple of weeks ago with a project and I wanted to pay him back by Meguiarizing his car....car arrived at my house at 9:30 a.m. and left at 3:30....trust me when I tell you, the car was in desperate, desperate need of a detail and I could hear it scream as it drove away "don't let them take me back there !!!!"

Anyway, they loved it and are very happy....the process/products I used:

    * NXT Car Wash - (pressure washed wheel wells)
    * Clay with Quik Clay and Quik Detailer
    * ScratchX some nasty bird etchings
    * #80 with DA polisher and 8006 pad
    * DC#2 (even though I know I probably didn't need it after #80)
    * NXT put on with DA and 9006 pad and removed with MF bonnet (definitely makes a difference)- one coat and I'll recoat in a couple of days.
    * NXT Insane Shine on the tires.

I think the old girl cleaned up nicely, especially the swirls...

Shot of hood - nasty, nasty....

    Swirls

    And more swirls

    AFTER

9 years of brake dust baked on to plastic wheel covers
Clay took this off with a little help from wheel cleaner

    That's Better !

Nice job. Family cars make perfect testing vehicles.

Nicely done. I did my mom's '01 Century Custom this weekend, also. Of course, it's galaxy silver metallic, so it doesn't show swirls/etc. that bad.... plus it wasn't in bad shape with just barely over 11,000 miles on it

my inlaws are known as the out-laws.. they come over I leave! They are taking up space and air a normal human being could use! All I have is a DA. I should buy a rotary and detail there vehicle at night for them with it! Learn how use a rotary on there vehicle!
