  • Ford (Eddie Bauer) Explorer Detail

    Hi All,

I detailed this black, Ford Eddie Bauer Explorer for a friend back in July.

This SUV had tremendous hard water spots etched into the horizontal surfaces....It was so bad that it was scaly looking.

This should have been a job for a rotary, but since I don't have one yet, I had to use multiple passes with a G-100/ W-8006/ DACP combo in order to bring back the finish to the way it ought to be.

After as many as 10 passes (Yes 10 passes!) on the hood, I made Eddie look pretty good again. ....Not to mention that I followed up with Speed Glaze once or twice.

The sides were done with Speed Glaze, and I topped it all off with NXT.

I just wished that I had a better camera to capture my images and hard work with, as the pictures just don't look as good as they should......(Sorry, no before pictures)

If you're wondering, OBX stands for Outer Banks, North Carolina)

A rare sighting of the Bumper himself...

My wife did the interior and it looked as good as the outside. I should have taken a few pictures to give her, her just due.

        Rusty,

Looks very good sir. Encouraging to hear that the defects you removed could be done with a DA, even though it took 10 passes. I could live with that.

          Thanks BJ!

That many passes was unusual for me....I've never had to deal with severe spotting before.

It was a great learning experience though.

Thanks for the compliments Joe, GB!

The owner gets a lot of compliments about how good it looks.

            Oooops!

I forgot about taking this shot.....

The interior was done with APC+, Natural Shine, and Medallion Leather Cleaner.

            She did a great job!

                Thanks Tom!

It was the longest amount of time that I've ever had to put into a detail, but it was worth it.

As you know, black paint will tell on you if you swirl it up. But I saw little or no swirls after a thorough search at different light angles.

This was my first real test on black paint, and the skills that I have acquired on this forum has paid off.

                Thank you MOL.

WOW Great job on the Explorer. The paint is like a mirror, and the interior looks like it was brand new, I would have to take my shoes off before getting inside that car.
I had a black car with a very light colored interior like that, and it was a PITA to keep it clean especially in the winter.

                    Thanks Mark!

My (our) hard work plus Meguiar's products really made a difference.

Yea, those light colored interiors can get dirty fast!

Re: Ford (Eddie Bauer) Explorer Detail

                      Hi all,

I haven't posted much in a good while, although I do check-in occasionally, but I am bumping an old thread to pay tribute to the owner of this vehicle - Rev. John Houck.

He passed away Sunday around 4:00 pm after fighting stage 4 kidney failure for seven years. He was a true warrior for Christ in the old fashioned sense. He truly cared for his flock, and anyone else he came into contact with. If you had a problem, he was available around the clock to talk and pray for your need - whatever it was. Last October, a former member of our church passed away while visiting relatives in our area. She was impoverished, and did not have any life insurance to put her away. Bro. Houck went straight to the bank and borrowed enough money to give her a decent funeral. The loan officer said, "only one in a thousand would do such a thing, sir". Course, this is just a token of the many things he has done for others. I could go on and on, but I won't.

I guess this forum is not the proper place to discuss these kind of events, but I just wanted to pay homage to a man that helped to guide me for the past 31 years. When I say he will be sorely missed, that is an absolute understatement.

Rest in eternal peace, John Houck, you fought a good fight, and you kept the faith. It was a high honor for me to detail your automobiles over the years.

Edit: Here is a link to his wife's car I detailed years back. She died back in 2005...
