  • Hey Tim-here's the black CLK430 that I detailed this weekend

Below are pix of an MB CLK430 that I detailed this weekend. It looked pretty good to begin with....until I put it in the garage and turned on the halogen lights. Then lots of swirls and scratches showed up. My customer said he wanted it "perfect". So, here's what I used.

    Clay
#83 with cutting pad on the rotary
#80 with polishing pad on the rotary
    #21 using the G100

I'm pleased with how it turned out. Customer will pick up the car on Monday evening.

Here is one before pic, under the halogen lights. This is the passenger side door.

Great job on the mercedes. Nothing beats a newly detailed black vehicle, and you made that happen as one can see with those photos.

Question: How long did it take you for the entire process? I only have a DA (no rotary), so I am not too familiar with how much quicker the rotary works to produce those results.

      Thanks!

I did the interior and exterior. Total time was 13 hours. Interior took 3, exterior was 10. This included washing, claying, a couple passes with the #83, another pass with the #80, one pass with #21 and then some cleanup work (getting all the little white dust out of all the cracks), cleaning the wheels/tires, door jambs, inside of trunk, everything on the interior.

It's nice when your hobby brings in a little extra spending cash!

                Nice work Bob!

As you continue in this path, try to educate the customer, (I'm sure you already do), and then bump up the price for work like this until your getting $260.00 for just the paint detail. One of the was I did this was to make any interior detailing a separate option and a separate charge. I would also make it a separate day and explain to the customer that when I'm working on their paint, they want all my focus and dedication targeted towards the paint to really get the best show car quality work they wanted.

                Just an idea...

                    Thanks Tim!

                    That's a great idea Mike.

I'm still learning. I'm getting more comfortable with the rotary as I do more cars. It's a great tool for handling the tough problems.

                      Hey Bob,

Just to piggy back on Mike's comments....

When you do get more comfortable with the rotary etc... try as Mike suggested and increase the value of your work. Your quality of work will bring the customers!

Bravo on the Black Benz! Having had one & having one coming in this week I'm getting repsyched. I tell my clients there is a split fee for ext & int too. That gives you work on a rain/slow day. I also offer a menu w/$ for maintenance(wash) to makeover.
