Just recently Toyotacamry99 and I have gotten into the detailing craze. This is our third car that we recently detailed. We have selected cars that have been poorly neglected and have oxidation throughout their car. Through practice and tips from other MOL forum users, we have learned more with each car we detail. We can only hope that we will be as quick in detailing as the majority of yall. Your tips and advice are welcome on how we can spend less time and still produce only the "Best" results.
Here are some before and after photos of a Nissan Frontier that has been neglected since initial purchase. He claims he has brought the car a few times to several quick wash/wax centers, however none of them were able to remove the dirt, hard water stains on the sides, and grime that he thought a quick ($40) wax job can do. So my friend offered to detail his "exterior" for $60 bucks (as a favor and for learning purposes) and after 5 hours of work (2 people) here are the steps and photos.
Steps:
- Washed with GC Shampoo & Conditioner
- Clayed entire car with Final Inspection
- Taped around trim
- #83 DACP with (2) PCs (#8006 Pads) (Several passes on some spots)
- #82 Hand Polish (by hand)]
- #7 Show Car Glaze on Hood only.
- #26 High Tech Wax (by hand)
- Vacuum interior
- #40 Vinyl and Rubber on trim (No exterior trim detailer as of yet)
I personally selected #26 instead of #21 only because I wanted the owner to have that smooth carnuaba wax feel. Maybe the next time around, we'll use #21 for extra protection.

The owner was amazingly pleased with the result. He initially was about to get a new paint job before the detail, but after seeing his car, he was amazed how we were able to revive his original paint (except back bumper - paint has begun chipping). He is now a true believer on Meguiar's products and is looking forward to purchasing products for himself.
[I apologize for the lack of after photos. I was in the garage at night, and due to poor lightening, I was only able to take handheld shots of the front and right side panel]
I due have a question. The car is only 4 years old, and due to the neglect of the paint from South Florida sun and rain, I wondered if the hood and roof will ever be as reflective as the sides. I was not sure if we needed to use more #83 DACP on the hood with the PC, or did we reach our peak? If you look at the before photos, you might see a pic of the hood in the sun, and a taped hood in the garage (I used a flash and the above light was on). There was very little shine and reflection (if not none) on the hood area. Could more work have been done to get back its original shine? Looking for some advice, and as always, thanks for your time and help with the forum tips and photos of your cars.
