  • BMW '99 z3 jet black revived!

detailed a '99 BMW Z3 jet black today

I thought i'd share some pics and tips.

    process:

    1. Meguiars NXT wash
    2. Clay (mild version)
    3. semi-swirled panels received #83/PC/speed5/w8006
    4. nasty-swirled panels received #84/Rotary/speed2/w7006 + #83 via PC (speed 5). Note, I had to really work the 83/pc combo very well to remove the micro-abrasion that #84 left behind. If I were to redo the detail, I'd #83/rotary then #80/PC.
    5. NXT tech wax by hand
    6. tires received hotshine tire dressing

    time: ~5 hours

    before pics:
    Swirls

    half-trunk test (#83 w/rotary @ Speed 2 + #80 via PC)

can anyone give me tips on cleaning the covertible top? I just soaped it down and rinsed it off to avoid linting from the washmitt.

          Good job!

Yep. Sometimes is faster and/or more effective to do a second-step rotary after a heavy cutting with a compound and a cutting pad like you list.

          M84/W-7006/RB
          M83/W-8006/RB
          M80/W-8006/G100

          Then go to wax.

          Time: ~5 hours
Add a couple more hours for the second step rotary work plus careful wiping off of product and be sure to charge for it.

thanks mike and superior shine! Mike always says good things about you! I'd like to learn a few things from you if you have time.

If I had more time with the detail, I would have definitely gone M83/W-8006/RB after the compounding process. Although, I'd still have to M80/W-8006/G100 b/c I can't seem to achieve a swirl free finish with M83/W-8006/RB (there is still some very slight buffer holograms).

Any pros out there able to use M83/W-8006/RB w/o any holograms whatsoever on BLACK? I always feel the necessity to follow-up with the orbital at M80 just to ensure a swirl-free finish.

                Excellent work hamanncheese!

Those BMW models are made less than 100 miles from here.
