  • Some days just you just can't win......

I thought I would share my crappy day and see if anyone out there has had a day like yesterday.

First some background......I have a 2002 Red Cavalier daily driver that I like to keep looking clean and I noticed some swirl marks the last time I washed it. So, in true Meguiar's fashion I took out the PC and used #80 followed up with a coat of GC so that I could sleep at night.

Now to yesterday......I was on my way home and stopped in traffic when I hear tires screeching and feel my head pop backwards......I got rear-ended by a Ford Expedition (she said that she was paying attention to her 7 kids in the car with her).

To top it off, after getting the ladies information and attempting to get home to survey the damage up close (after a wash of course) some sort of road trash pops the driver's side door and leaves a quarter sized ding.

I thought swirl marks were bad, I can't even look at the car now without getting lightheaded......

We're sorry to hear of your accident. While accidents are never any fun, the most important thing is that nobody was hurt...

If you want to prevent accidents liek that from happening again report her to the police. Her admitting to not paying attention to the road, for ANY reason, is the definition of careless driving here and would gain her a nice fine and 6 demerit points.

That seems very harsh, yet she could've caused far more damage, even endangering her kids she was paying attention to.

I have no sympathy for inattentive drivers.

Road debris... lets not even get started on that... I have a huge mark from road debris on my hood and just recently a nice scrape from a Coke can on a side skirt.

ugh.....I actually believe it or not had a day like that that I'll never forget....year was 1982 and I had a Chevy Vega that was fire engine red and all "pimped" out with every accessory that the K-Mart auto department had, including the chrome gas pedal shaped like a foot...(don't ask)....anyway, I was car crazy even back then and would wash it three, four times a week and wax it at least once a month....long story short, I was parking the car in the street near my house and my girlfriend was going to park in front of me....instead of pulling forward as she got in front of me, she accidently had the car in reverse and hit the gas............I can still see the back end of that yellow car coming at me....it wasnt' a good day and needless to say, I married someone else....I feel your pain.....

Thanks for the stories, makes me feel better knowing that it happens to other people (as twisted as that is).

I work in Austin, Tx and there are so many accidents that the police have implemented a new policy regarding accidents "If there are no injuries, exchange information and request an accident report form - do not call the police".

I am definately fortunate that it was not serious (and that my 11 month old daughter was not in the backseat). The Expedition could have eaten my lunch if it was going faster

G, from the sound of it, I'll bet you have a whiplash injury........I
would at least go to the ER and let them check me out....It doesn't take much of an impact to get injured.

If you feel any heat in the neck area, then that's a sure sign of tissue damage.

Man I hate stuff like that! It always happens to the "car crazy" people! My 02 ford ranger was sideswiped from mid bedside to side view mirror in october of 02. I had the brand new truck for only 4 weeks!

Glad to that everyone is alright. Remember cars are repairable/replaceable.

We have similar a rule in my area, that if the damage is less than $1000, no police report. I do agree with this for a couple of reasons 1) the accident does not go on the person driving record and 2)since when are LEO's property damage estimators.

yea i hate that. i say if you can't pay enough attention to drive while doing anything, let it be cell phone, kids, movies, get someone else to drive who is capable. and if THAT person can't do it, get some training/stop having kids/don't drive!!

Not that this would make you feel any better but I got a dent on my car when it was 14 hrs old.

                        toyotaowner,

Eckkkkkkkk........my last new car (truck) was able to make it almost a year before my first ding. I bought it on 08/28/1998 and it got a ding on 08/26/1999. Then it started snowballing.....someone hit in a parking lot, some kid ran into it while playing and a lady dropped a queen sized set box springs on it.

About the box springs.....I lived in an apartment and had my truck under covered parking. She thought it would be a good place to rest her stuff while moving in, so she set her bed against the pole holding up the covered parking (I happened to be parked next to it). The bed slipped and creased the rear quarter panel. She offered to pay for the damage, but a few days later she had her front door open and was sitting in the living room in lawn chairs (so I knew I wasn't going to get a dime out of her).

                        Oh well..........

It's amazing the mentality that some people have about other people's cars!.......Sorry to hear about that.
