  • Meguiar's Ultimate Compound VS. the Truck from Hell

I recently completed both Meguiar's Saturday classes at the Meguiar's garage in Irvine and have been dying for a opportunity to test my new found knowledge in paint care. So when my neighbor inherited this terrible black Dodge Ram 1500 I finally got my chance. I busted out on my generic D/A and generic orange foam pads (I'm going to buy a Meg's MF System soon) with some Ultimate compound I and went to work.

Notice the scratches on the door. Here are some more close up pictures of the hood.

The front bumper had heavy scuffs, scratches and paint transfer.

After claying and just 2-3 passes here were the results. The paint was medium soft which is typical of Dodge paint from what I understand. The spots you see are tiny paint chips, if I didn't know better you'd think someone sand blasted it.

It took me about half a day, I wasn't really keeping track. I topped it off with some Simix Supreme Shield coating and here she is ready to turn some heads again!

FINAL THOUGHTS: Don't underestimate Meguiar's Ultimate Compound because it is a consumer product. It has some serious bite and is really user friendly. It finishes down to a great shine with no hazing at all. I want to send a shout out to Mike for sharing his knowledge with us.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.
