I got a call from a friend of mine earlier this week asking if I could work on his boat asap.. I had done a test spot just over a month ago, but we never really got together to get the big job done. But with Memorial Day this weekend, it was the perfect time to get er done..
Remembering what it was like to detail that 40' RV a while back, I knew I'd be in for quite a battle as this boat had a couple of obvious things in common with that RV.
#1. Gelcoat.
#2. It's Huge.
28' DCB.

I had initially tried a test spot on this gelcoat with a few things I had in my bag over a month ago including D151, Ultimate Compound, and D300 w/DMC5. None of which could even put a slight dent into the oxidation on this boat.. This time around I armed myself with M67. And thanks to a last minute tip from my cat, I learned M67 is DAT and not SMAT. That bit of info was key as I adjusted my technique a bit. I thank my Cat for DAT. Lol.

Paired up with Megs new Foam Cutting Discs. Lets rock!

Here's what I had to deal with on the top dark painted area of the boat.

After M67 and going up to speed 6 for the 1st time ever on my DA we had this..

Further refining with M205 took it even further

Here's what the white paint looked like before:

After:

This gelcoat was beast! It put up 1 heck of a war and even with cleaning on the fly after each pass, it caked up my foam pads pretty quickly. I probably changed pads about 15-16 times in the 2 days it took me to finish it. Lol.
Ton of work.. I even wiped down the white interior of the boat with D114 to top it off.
Now it's ready for Lake Havasu.

.....And just when I thought it was over, a mutual friend of ours who lives across the street was interested in me polishing his boat too! Lol.
So here we go again.. And in a hurry as this boat's heading out to Lake Havasu to join the other 1 for the holiday. Luckily, this 1 was only 21'.
Only 21' yay! Lol.

Alot of work, but it feels good to get this under my belt. Especially for good friends.

Thx for reading. Happy Memorial Day weekend to everyone on MOL!
