Hi everyone
I've been off the forum for a few years, as life has a way to change priorities. I was last active here in about 2009, but I never stopped detailing. Since then I got a wife, house (came with the wife
), got a daughter, built a garage and bought my childhood dream car. Yes, my dreams are modest, but I was always fascinated by this particular model.
When I bought it in 2010, it was getting pink. The previous owner told me it would need a repaint. After inspection, I did not tell him, but I was quite sure I could bring back this color without a repaint since there was no peeling clearcoat. (I did not know at that time that only the main shell is clear coated, the front fenders, doors, hood and hatch don't have a clear coat. According to what I read, this may be particular to this color code only, as to why Toyota would make it this way, I don't know.) I did indeed have to get some touchups done as these cars were not very rust resistant.
The paint was easily workable with good old M80, so this is the main product I used. It became such a bright red car after all this work !
But then, something I did not expect happened with the LSPs. Over the years, I tried NXT2, Ultimate Wax and Collinite 476 on this car. I first used NXT2 (and later UW) since this is what I use for my black daily driver and I am more than pleased with the result. However these two LSPs turned the old car on the orange side.
It looked less nice than when I was done with M80, before applying the LSP. I then tried using Collinite. Didn't turn orange, but the color really didn't pop, I'd say it was quite dulled, but at least it appeared red.
But this spring I decided to try something. Since the paint was already in excellent shape, I used M7, which I bought many years ago but never really used. Result was the same as M80, bright red.
For the LSP, I had an old bottle of M26. I bought it many years ago but never used it. It was all dusty in a box where I put it prior to moving in with my wife. I gave it a good shake, the product seemed still good so I tried it.

Unfortunately, my camera is unable to capture the amazing shine I got. These were taken right after a ride, so there is light dust all over the car. I also just noticed that I forgot to dress the tires.
Needless to say, I was amazed at the result M26 gave me. From now on, no other LSP will touch this paint.
Thank you Meguiar's
PS This would qualify for an extreme makeover, but I did not take pictures before beginning the work.
